1 hour. Dusk always falls at 45 mins, midnight is always on the hour, dawn is always 15 min after

    1 hour is 1 day.

There are 28 days in a month.

12 months in the year. Meaning one in game year is exactly 2 weeks.

    Year 0 was 9/2/1997

Which means all our characters would have died from old age by the time the game releases. That, or they're retired.

Well as it sounds this the case and at least in the start I was guessing that rotation of the celestial bodies would be simply faster and as it would be reasonable that also on novia the movement of the planet around the sun is used to describe a year it would be normal that with a faster rotation also the intervals would be faster. In any case time itself would stay the same but as crops grow also in such a haste (12-72h in RL are converted round about 2 to 10 weeks till the plants are harvestable) it seems the time is really that much faster on novia.
Well and 4 years in rl would be I think 104 years in novia but luckily we are avatars that can reincarnate over and over into a new fresh body and do not have to fear getting old (and wise :p).
The NPCs on the other hand that do not have these possibilities must have some other fountain of youth to stay young forever...or isn't it the reincarnation that is keeping us avatars young and instead it is the same source of these long lives for every living being? Maybe a byproduct of the cataclysm? Or is it related to the rise of the obsidians? Or is the oracle the source of this longevity? Or some mystic power hiding in the dark?
Maybe we need some smart guys to investigate and solve this riddle…there must be hints somewhere in novia. ;)

Or they're Outlanders and not subject to the same calendar and effects of the passage of time as the natives of New Britannia.

I'm just so used to it these days that I just look at my computer clock and think.. oh.. it's a quarter til.. time for the sun to set.. :)

Technically, the lore has it that outlanders still age according to the flow of time on their homeworld.. So in that 104 years in New Britannia you are only still aging 4 years. That being said.. you will still eventually die of old age.. it'll just take 24 times longer. :) (Assuming you're from Earth. )

This information was helpful because I was making a scripted video and wanted the lighting to be mostly correct. Even still, I don't have enough patience to wait for the exact right time. It is good to know that 30 after is midday, golden hour is about 40 after.

Although that, of course, means that in the time we've been wandering Novia, at least three generations of 'new' native Novians should have come along to replace their retired, aging or dead ancestors.... unless they are all actually automata with a human skin covering them? ;)

Obsidians were used to create life and creatures, i would say their impact on the world combined with the Shardfalls have influenced all these things.

They never created life.. only changed its form. From human to something else.

Why do you think they are humans?
Maybe the average Novian matures after 10.000 years?

Because that would take a long time to develop and cost a lot of money.

    They are avatars.
We get reborne everytime we die.
Not ageing is just another benefit.

Even if this seems to be the most likely possibility regarding the not aging NPCs there are also some oddness’s. E.g. nearly every one of the current living NPCs would have known the time before the cataclysm or at least they had been witnesses auf the rise and fall of the obsidians. ;)

But thinking about the lore I read so far it looks like they lived a normal live until a "mysterious event" (no one know about) and since that time no one is aging anymore. This event must have took place round about the time we avatars arrived as the NPCs do not remember what happened decades (NBT) before but everything that happened till we avatars are on novia…...maybe there is some kind of connection between our emerge and natives we don't know about.

By the way it is also strange why everyone of the NPCs is that supinely about this circumstance. I think if that would happen on earth a lot of people would freak-out. :p:D

This is a prime example of game mechanics that indeed should not need to be explains and just accepted as a limitation of game tech and design.. because there is no good way to try to explain it away in a manner which makes sense. I only wish there were other things which Portalarium didn't try to explain away.. (ie PvP flags.. Avatar appearance.. etc)..
