I just heard from other Players about Bloody Bones and thought that I would go take a look.

I'm sure a neat creature to fight for the new players.

What excited me a bit was this Mistress Valdis. I see potential here.

She never really dies so I saw that possibly if a player becomes her enemy she could haunt that player through out their career.

I could see myself fighting the usual battles creating (hopefully) piles of bodies around me only to have Mistress Valdis enter one of the slain bodies, raise and attack me speaking her usual blasphemies.

    This would be really neat.

The long term goal would be to find that location that is a special ritual area for her and perform an action that would knock her back down to lowbie status only to start over again her rise to power.

On the other side of the virtue score a player could become an ally. If the virtue system will allow for this in the future.

    My 2 cents worth.

    This just came to mind...

What if, in that in between state where an avatar dies and before he/she resurrects Mistress Valdis enters there fallen avatar body?

    Added power for her?

Oh, I have big plans for Mistress Valdis, Naturamans, and even who, or WHAT, is the boss of the Geistesser(s). There is a book you can find in SBO (currently it's misnamed Ballad of Bloody Bones - a known bug I'll fix once I get back) that gives a brief history of Mistress Valdis. Sometimes it's a drop, and sometimes it can be found laying around an abandoned home.

I can't wait to see what horrible things you have in store for us.

What if Mistress Valdis entered the slain body of Torc'Dawl when players are farming him? A sad day for sure.

I love this quest! Once again @Puuk, great work! :D

My only question is, I have the quest from the three "strange" children and have about a bakers dozen of the misnamed lady valdis book, but for some reason I cannot get the actual quest book to drop. No matter how many Ebon Dawn cultists I kill or Lady Valdis herself for that matter. Am I missing something? :)

Sounds like you just got on an unlucky streak. The drop rate is set at 10%, which means there's a 90% chance it will not drop. Just keep murdering "helpless" ebon dawn fools until it drops. Sorry it's taking so long. If there's a pattern of it taking a painfully long time to drop for a few more players, then I'll up the drop chance to 20%.

Can you confirm what the book is called?

I have a Legend of Bloody Bones book that I got from somewhere (I forget where, and I forget if that's the exact name) but it's not a quest book. I'm not saying the drop rate is too low, but the book I have certainly doesn't fulfill the Bloody Bones quest line with the kids. Just very confusing to know if you have what you need or not. (Yes I read that there's a misnamed book).

Ah ok cool! I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a step or something. No worries though, back to the Ebon Dawn slaughter, lol! :)

Yeah I don't unfortunately. Only the misnamed "Ballad of Bloody Bones" which is about Lady Valdis and is not in yellow. Thanks though!

The misnamed book is NOT a quest item. It's supposed to be named The Tale of Mistress Valdis the Undying (fixed internally, but will make it in to the next update). It's just a deco book item to get some back story, decorate your home, or virtually wrap fish (that last part is a joke - don't write a bug that you can't wrap fish with the book).

This is a nice idea. I'd like to see the Devs pop in from time to time and fight us as the creatures. Think how much more fun @Mac2 would it be if the dragon/troll/daemon you were fighting was actually @Kor , @Vas Corp Por , @Chris or some other real person. UO Dev. did that to me in the Balron room in Hythloth. Killed my dragon and me. He then mocked me while I was dead, something about revenge for repeated harassment of his domain. Good times.
