It is dangerous. A bear can kill you in one hit, and theres permadeath. But you learn to play the game in a way to avoid this. Also, be careful walking on ice lakes that are starting to thaw.

DragonAge origins! Is awesome you can play that over and over.
Rage is kind of like Fallout, but i like it better
GUN is another decent game you should check out (one of those you can play over and over)
Vampire the Masquerade: bloodlines (can play over and over) it is a bit glitchy but its fun to kick a cabinet door into your head and one shot kill yourself! LOL) this game is pretty fun tho
www.gog.com has a bunch of oldies that are still fun to play for cheap

"Best" I don't know about, but "heck yeah this is totally awesome": I allowed myself Fallout 4 finally a few weeks ago. I knew it would eat my life alive, and it is doing exactly that. Skyrim and Fallout 3 did the same to me, there's just something I love about their systems and style. And I barely touch the main story lines, I tend to fall into all the side quests and DLC systems (vault building and robot construction and just general exploration of all the crafting perks)

And I'm going to need to finally update my console to play Red Dead Redemption 2. Current release date is June 8, my birthday is June 9, so that timing is great. (Not PC, off topic, sorry!!!)

I went through a dry patch with big games from 2010 on but I did play Skyrim, DragonAge and Fallout 4 and Fallout 4 did the exact same thing to me. I ended up with like 125 hours in the game before I had to put down the needle. It was a great change from the Facebook flash games I had gotten stuck on lol.

I'd say Ultima 7 (both parts) but more recently I had so much fun with The Witcher 3 and Divinity: Original Sin 2.

Reading the comments on gog.com, it says that its predecessor was Baldur´s Gate II (which I haven't played). Is it important to have played that first in order to enjoy/understand Dragon Age Origins?

That is the problem with Skyrim and Fallout though... you can be 100 quests/activities done still not be near beating the game. I played hundred of hours with Skyrim and never beat it. I had to come to a halt while playing FO4 so I could be it. Otherwise I would have massive bases built everywhere and defending random attacks non stop. Those are great games.

I tried to go back and play/replay some of the games like Dragon Age and couldn't. The graphic flashing and tearing just gives me headaches after about 30 minutes.

It would be cool if they redid some of these old games like UO and put that story and world into a modern game.

Even if there are mentioned a lot of old RPGs I liked a lot (like Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, Baldurs Gate, Wizardry, Might and Magic, Fallout, Wasteland, Final Fantasy, Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age,…) it is still Planescape Torment with it’s quite unique characters, conversations and setting I still like the most.

Actually I do not understand how someone made a connection between Dragon Age and Baldur's Gate...both are good RPGs in a fantasy world but as far as I remember they play in complete different settings/worlds. You may have to play BG I before BG II to understand everything but there are no lore connections to Dragon Age I know...and I think there is even a BG III in development. ;)

No definately not just get Dragonage and start playing, i think the rpg type storyline would be more akin to like baldurs gate, but hey baldurs gate was good too LOL

Many favourite RPGs, most of them have already been mentioned here.

But there is only one so far that is worth as much as all of the rest of my favourites:

    Ultima Online.

edit: it's an mmo but still.

The malkavians are super fun. If you haven't tried it with the WESP patch, it unlocks extra dialog options for them.
This stupid thread :)D) actually made me reinstall and patch up the game this week. I realized I'd played through all the clans except the ventrue. I'm starting up a gun slinging ventrue with the 'war profiteer' background. He's sort of like Tony Stark, but way more of a DB. Should be a hoot.
