Understood, honestly I use it when I want both my Avatars in game, which isn't very often.

Both! You can run both at the same time. It used to be Steam because the normal game patcher was pitifully slow (steam took 5 mins to upgrade a release and Ports patcher took 8 hours). But since they fixed it last year, they both patch in about the same amount of time.

As others have said, it is 64-bit.

To avoid confusion, it runs out of the 32-bit "Program Files" directory though, because Steam itself is 32-bit (Steam really wouldn't gain anything by being 64-bit)

Personally, I prefer the steam-version, because it uses my steam login and it patches while I'm at work. The downside is you can't sell your account easily later (I'm not planning on doing that anyway).

Frankly, now that the patcher is fixed, it's mostly just a personal preference thing. I would advise you to use whichever is more convienent for you.

FWIW it is best to use that page with a Firefox-derived browser, because other browsers won't display it properly.

When it's monthly patch time, I usually download it the night before and open up the upload bandwidth on my torrent client. Then I both get to install it the moment the new version is advertised, and help distribute it during the busiest day.

Unfortunately, if I am updating a secondary machine and it's a few days behind, the patcher will helpfully purge "old" versions, apparently by looking at the file date. Maybe I should try using touch before running the patcher.

Not sure what it looks like on Firefox, but it looks fine for me on Chrome.

Sure, I see all the coding brackets, but all the urls are there to copy/paste.

it's not a web page, it's a feed. don't use a web browser at all. use a feed reader. (or one within a browser. i like newsblur.)

Firefox browsers can display RSS feeds as a list of links. Other browsers may refuse to display anything at all and force you to download it as a file.

No idea. Our point is, if you don't link to steam you MAY sell, if you CAN or not is your own problem!

I think you get faster small fixes with the official Sota patcher through. I also bought mine on steam but unlinked it from steam a few months ago so that I can use the official patcher instead of the Steam one.
