Title: What do I need to do to get you all to address the crashing?
Reproduction Rate: 4 times in the last 20 minutes.
Blocker? Yes.
Details: The crashing has been worse this release but it's really bad now in build 759. It's not even happening during scene changes, it's while adventuring. The client crashed on me four times just trying to get from my lot to K'rawl.
Steps to Reproduce: Just play the game.

@Barugon Unfortunately "Just play the game" isn't quite enough to make this happen. Many including myself are playing for hours at a time. But we want to stop this from happening to you. Just keep in mind there are so many variables here and troubleshooting will be needed. We cannot repro on a linux machine.

Please check out Laz's link and also note there several anti-virus programs out there that are not liking in-game map at the moment. I'd just to make sure nothing was quarantined by mistake, to start.

 

1. This is on Linux.
2. There is no virus program running.
3. The crashes are, as far as I can tell, random.

 

What do you see in dmesg after the crash? See if your kernel is OOM and kills the SotA process.

 

I upgraded a bundle during the livestream and just claimed the rewards. The window came up telling me that I have a lot deed, house and basement to upgrade and when I clicked OK, the client crashed.

[edit] Restarted the client, opened my bank, turned my chair around to deal with something else and when I turned back the client was gone again.

 

I was just in Britanny, shooting a practice target. Pressed the hotkey to charge up Flurry and the client crashed around the second tick.

 

In Blood River Forest, I just had a very long freeze (more than 10 seconds). This usually results in a crash but it recovered and the framerate became very choppy. I tried to quit the client in order to get back to a reasonable framerate and it crashed.

 

Just crashed while skinning an Elder Wolf in Crag Foothills.

The solution I pointed to has been updated.
While I THOUGH it was working my machine has continued to crash since my posting.

I have updated it to let folks know it IS NOT A solution.

Reading the forums while my avatar was standing around in my house... crash.

[edit] Restart the client, log in, crash.

 

Logged off of one account, logged into another account and crashed.

 

After moving a couple of POT NPCs, I pressed the key to toggle off decoration mode and the client crashed.

 

@Barugon You have been faithfully posting.

Can you confirm your kernel and drivers are up to date, have you tried disabling antivirus (with view to maybe altering white lists later), do you have any other games you stress your machine with? eg any chance something has developed a fault?

What linux distro is that, have you tried a different kernel? Have you wiped sota and reinstalled?

 

i asked this in your nightshade pass framerate thread because i found 4.15 to be much less stable and went back to 4.14. 4.16 was just release 2 weeks ago as well, you could try going either up or down now to see if it helps.

you also don't list an nvidia driver version number, though you say you upgraded it recently. many games had a problem with 390.25, so i stayed on 384 until 390.42 came out.

 

I'm using Fedora 27. The kernel version is 4.15.14 and the Nvidia driver version is 390.48.

As noted previously, we really do we have to narrow things down to figure out what is going on here. What steps have you done to attempt to resolve this? Have you tried a re-install of the game yet? A full run down of everything that has been attempted is required as part of the detective work. Even if it didn't work, it is information we can use as knowledge. This is not a widespread issue across all linux users and we have been responding as much as possible, whenever you had made a new technical related thread.

The situations you described above do not repro any crashes on our linux machine. So unfortunately, it doesn't help us make any progress. We want to help you make a breakthrough here so you can play normally. I am sure it is beyond frustrating to keep crashing like that.

Edit: And if possible, please keep it to one thread if you can - at least if it is happening within the same release. Otherwise a new thread is kind of like starting from scratch.

 

I'll try that.

 

The other thread is a frame-rate issue in a specific scene (Nightshade Pass) and I can reproduce that every time by simply going there.
