I made the craftable Shingle-Roof Four-Story row house and it's nice, although it does look like a bit of a fire trap with all that wood. Has anyone else built a house yet?

It takes 70 Woodworking Proficiency (not skill!), 200 timber, and 50 granite. The woodworking proficiency is the hard part (expert tables help a lot at that level!), then you mill all the timber, head over to the carpentry table and... make the fastest house ever built!

Well done! I plan to try and make such a row house as well. I'll also be heading to Kingsport tonight to check it out! My current 4-story house is horribly cramped.

Congrats. I got a 3 story version and I like it. (It goes with my pirate fisherman) persona well. Mounted fish look great on the walls!

I'll be crafting one (I want porch on the 4 story version) as soon as I can rustle up 70 timber.

I find it to have a more open floor plan than most other row houses - Viking house is the exception.

I have a four-story shingle in Pericaliya, an island near Aerie, it's basically empty atm but anyone is welcome to go see how it looks if you live in that direction and consider building your own (look for Ruby Atani in town crier, or simply walk to the first row of row lots and turn to the right, it's a small town and very easy to navigate :)).

70 proficiency translates to a carpentry level 98 if I recall correctly.

Gratz! I like to make as much of my own items as I can also. Making your own house is terrific! Maybe now you can start your own construction company?

But 85 carpentry skill is 65.2 and a +5 table makes it 70.2. As I said, an expert table helps a lot! And the success chance is 89% at that level!

I'm a LONG way from 85 carpentry, heh. I need to find a good spot to farm trees. Any tips? TIA.

So it takes the same mats as ten long bowstaves... doesn't seem fair.

is there a list of player-craftable houses and their floorplans? Are they able to craft all houses or only certain ones ?

These are the only recipes currently available on crafting NPCs:

    Shingle-Roof Four-Story (Row Home) = 200 timber + 50 granite
    Shingle-Roof Three-Story (Village Home) = 150 timber + 50 granite
    Shingle-Roof Two-Story (Village Home) = 100 timber + 50 granite
    Shingle-Roof Two-Story w/ Balcony (Village Home) = 120 timber + 50 granite

There are currently no basement recipes.

As of tonight, it seems like roving encounters include a LOT more trees than before. Also a wide variety of other resources (gold, silver, iron, copper, granite, cotton, skins...). Its actually a bonus to get a roving encounter now, that is, if youre a gatherer.

An expert station permits also learning a higher level recipe at a lower level by experimentation? Did not know about that, I bought the recipe from a crafting merchant in Owl's Head, but was unable to learn it until level 70. That was a lot of grinding... :) So the expert station is indeed truly helpful then, as the level 98 demands more than three times as much xp as level 85.

Anyway the house has a nice floorplan (at least the 4-story one does), I recommend checking it out.

And think about if you wanted one of those fancier bows...I'd say gathering mats for those is more trouble than building a two- or three-story house ;)

I visited your house this very early morning. While I didn't like all the wood interior what I really appreciated was all the room. Each floor seemed larger that the standard row house. Overall I really liked the house and thought you did really well building it. Now if we could only get some paint in the game to brighten up those walls.

It permits you to learn the recipe by scroll, too. I spent the extra gold for the recipe scrolls, because I had no idea what was in it and I needed to know how much wood to buy. Just go into the table, open your inventory, and use the scroll. I was despairing of all the producer XP that I would have to grind (I think 98 skill is exactly 75.0) until I realized how close I already was to 65. The 89% success chance made it even better.

Yeah, that wood interior is... loud? It is larger because each floor has the full overhang instead of a single one-third column of overhang. The back part of the house is the same as almost every other row house. (Viking is the one exception that I know.) And the outside does look like someone drove by with a monster truck and splashed mud all over it. But I can't complain, the price was right.

I think the house right behind mine is the equivalent online-store house. Same model, different skin.
