I feel like the current lighting model is really harsh and exaggerates both brightness of diffuse lighting and darkness of applied shadow. In the screenshots below, I'm standing in the same spot. Facing the sun, everything is overly bright. Facing away from the sun, the shadows are extremely exaggerated.

I have to agree with you on this one. The contrasts are just too exaggerated.

When you have to carry a torch in broad daylight because the shadows are so dark - that's just awful.

Today there was a patch win 102 which seemed to help, but I do agree the contrast still needs tweaking from shadows to brightness. Just the shadows are too dark, the brightness is good IMO.

Although the mist/fog still rolls in at mid day, even comes through the walls at Firelotus Tavern.

all & all the lighting is much better after win 102...

I've played around with this a bit more today. Turning shadows completely off gets rid of the issues.

@Dev team - please take a look at how shadows are implemented, especially self shadowing.

(count the shadows!) [/creepy doctor who reference]

I didn't realize you can turn off the shadows - thanks for pointing that out. Turning off the shadows makes a HUGE improvement. I can actually enjoy the game now.
