Before I plonk down yet another chunk of cash on something, I feel the need to ask for clarification regarding pack animal pets. The horse/mount stretch goal explicitly states that foals will grow into rideable mounts if the fundraising target is met. Case in point:

"A foal (baby horse) with white markings for use as a non-combat pet. If the Horse Mounts stretch goal is met, this horse will grow up into a rideable mount!"

But the details for the cria pet seem quite different:

"An adorable baby llama non-combat pet."

So... will the cria ever become a llama? Do the donkey and the cria both grow into full pack animals upon completion of the stretch goal, or are they, to quote the bard Alphaville, forever young? If they're going to grow up like the foals, then count me in! If not, well... I don't want them to be forever young....

    • Pack Animals: Goal = $100,000
      • Description: Pack Animals will help you carry all your valuable goods around the game
      • Rules:
        • Pack animals are basically mobile storage
        • Pack Animals cannot engage in combat nor can they be targeted
        • Pack Animals life/death state is linked to the owner’s. When owner dies the pack animal dies
        • Killing a player with a pack animal doubles the number of items available for loot/ransom
      • Pack Animals Stretch Goal Full Package: $40 (package discount)
        • Cria (baby llama) non-combat pet: $20
        • Foal (baby donkey) non-combat pet: $20
        • Saddlebags House Decoration: $10

Logic would say that those animals will grow up to be useable unique pack animals, but we have been fooled by the lawyer speak before. So it is a valid question

    Don't lawyer Starr, bro! :)

Yeah, logic would say a lot of things. But as someone that bought 2 llama's, I'd like to know too. I think the devs have developed a bad habit of leaving people hanging on some of this stuff. I can understand if they have a want to not back themselves into a corner that makes it hard to develop out of...but most people aren't as easy to market to as I am...most sane people figure out what they're buying before they pay for it.

I have a feeling I'm going to be stuck with a petting zoo.

If they can't sell the stretch goals as is...they're smart enough to add some sugar and spice and make everything nice. All of the current stretch goals will eventually get put into the game over time.

This is why I'm comfortable pledging to stretch goals. Even if it takes two years vs. one year, my foal will become a horse. If Portalarium confirms the same for pack animals, I'll buy a cria and the saddlebags at a minimum.

I have actually bought 2 llama and 2 mules already.

I figure as much as people talk about llama's in UO, these are sure to be sold later on for double or triple the price.

If the llamas were available in purple, how many would @Eriador buy? :)

    $5,420.00 (raised) ~us~ $250,000.00 (cost)

Being in between such numbers will make it quite interesting for ~us~ to watch such numbers aye? o_O

The total you gave is for the rideable mounts goal, and that is indeed a mere 2% or so of the $250,000 total needed. Those mounts are coming for sure in Chapter 2 either way. But in just one weekend, the pack animals have hit 1.5%+ of their target goal ($100,000). So I have more hope for pack animals in Chapter 1, but I really do need to know if my llama/donkey will be forever young....

I bought a horse to ride, hopefully (eventually), but I don't really want a donkey or a llama. If there was a draft horse option, I'd buy that.

This does set a poor precedent, however. Are all donkeys going to be pack animals? Can you not tame a donkey to ride? Can horses not be used as pack animals? This seems... strange.

Also, its been brought up before, but what exactly is required? Just an animal? There is no note saying that the pack saddle is required, or that it will gain a bonus once the goal is hit, so I don't know if I need one or not. (Similarly, I don't know if I need a saddle for my horse. Guess I'll buy one once the goal is hit if they do end up being necessary.)

If I am not mistaken. You will no longer be able to purchase stretch goal items once the goal has been met.

FireLotus just answered my support request. Crias and donkeys do NOT remain forever young. They will grow to adulthood if the stretch goal is met.

Translation: time to buy a cria and some saddlebags!

    Just curious on a few things;
    > would good are the saddle bags if they r a house decoration? Will the player be able to craft or buy saddle bags for their pack animals?
    > if a player gets attacked, will the pack animal get targeted or just the player? I am gathering from your statement that it's just the player. Just trying to comfirm.
    > can a player be able to use more than one pack animal at a time?
    thanks for any reply's ,,,
