    Few positive comments on R53:
    1. The newly designed Compendium of Pain and Suffering is VERY cool! It builds upon the concept of the older design, with big improvements on navigability & accessibility, as well as multiple "waves" of mobs within the same room. The loot is also pretty good compared to the old chests. This will be a great place to bring groups of mid-level players (adverturer level 70s and 80s). I only hope that the devs don't forget to replace the "Blank Book" as the reward for the Narrator's quest! The only other thing I would recommend is making the number of waves for the third chest (currently four) equal to the number of waves for the first two (currently eight). I wouldn't change the last wave; the multiple high-end lichs are plenty hard enough.
    2. Banish Undead is finally working as an AoE attack. It makes this spell one of the best "speciality" spells in the game. The balance seems about right too, especially on high-end lichs. I've been waiting for this one for a while now!
    3. I'm super excited about the non-blowing up of items when enchanting and masterworking. It's definitely going to change my crafting strategies in a big way. It also finally gives me an incentive to take my Enchant Armor and Enchant Weapons beyond level 97. Before, increasing durability only took up a chance to get real stats like Int, Str, and Dex. It now has a new purpose: more chances to get a good enchantment!
    4. Boss mobs (at least Riei Firefeather) are no longer affect by AoE effects (at least Ice Field and Meteor Shower) and debuffs (such as negative move rate from Ice Arrow). I know this sounds bad for players, but I think it actually makes these mobs a lot less wonky and harder to manipulate game mechanics to kill them quickly. I hope it will encourage more partying for killing boss mobs.
That's it for now. Keep up the good work, devs. I'm looking forward to exploring the rest of the new content for R53!

Only problem with that is it makes a lot of spells worthless in that situation. I don't know why they just don't scale down the effect that an AoE has on higher level mobs. To make the spells totally ineffective seems like a cheap way to make mobs harder. I could see something like an Ice Elemental being totally resistant to Ice Field, or Riel Firefeather immune to Ring of Fire. For some, the Moon Tree for instance, Meteor is their only attack. I hope this trend of making spells worthless doesn't continue.

Both of these are valid points. Scaling down effects would have a similar effect. I don't know why they made this choice, other than it might be easier to implement and less likely to break other things. As for Meteor Shower being the only Moon spell that does damage, it seems to me that a spell that is VERY effective (100+ crits for an AoE) against 99% of the mobs and ineffective against the top 1% is not "useless." A better solution would be to add another single-target attack spell to the Moon tree, similar in damage and effect as Searing Ray for the Sun tree. Again, I don't know why the devs haven't done this other than having other priorities at the moment.

I also don't believe that every build should be able to solo every mob in the game. It just so happens that my water build is very effective against the phoenix. If I want to go kill the Ancient Dragons in Northwest Blackblade Mountains, I gather a group together from my guild.

My point here is that the mechanics of the boss mobs are much better on the QA server. Instead of the phoenix being immobilized inside an Ice Field and taking damage from Meteor Shower while I pepper it with Ice Arrows, I actually have to move in order to not get clawed to death. I think it makes for more interesting gameplay rather than just figuring out how to manipulate the system.

Good. It feels like such a wet noodle right now. I have both Searing Ray and Banish Undead to 100, and I feel like Searing Ray works better and it doesn't take reagents. I'll try to find some undead to try it on now.

I've never even fought the phoenix, but the meteor shower immunity is pure, absolute garbage for players.

The glaringly obvious solution of a mob caught in an AoE DoT spell is to have the mob move out of it. This isn't rocket science. Another solution is to give the mob a new negating spell (somehow related to lore, no matter how thin the reasoning) and have it cast that after a couple ticks (long enough to where it's still worthwhile for the player to cast the DoT spell). But instead they're making the mob immune to that spell? What the heck? What about other AoE DoT like ring of fire... oh, wait, it's already immune to those.

Stop with these garbage "short-term" (nothing lasts longer than a short-term fix!) "fixes". If you can't design a mob properly, remove it until you can.

And on another note, surprise surprise, mages get screwed again with yet another mob immune to some form of magic. You won't ever see something like "mob changed to now be immune to blades".

I'm not arguing the Meteor Showers isn't an affective spell, but it is the only damage spell currently available to a caster who has specialized in Moon Magic. The bosses obviously have resists, so why not tinker with their resistance to certain damage types rather than strip the only means to cause damage away from a player. I don't know why other priorities would supercede the combat system, as it is a huge, integral part of the game. I just mentioned Meteors as an example, but there are other spells that are rendered useless, apparently. You mentioned debuffs, and there are some of those in the moon tree as well. So, if you remove the debuffs and the damage, what good would a Moon Mage be in a fight against a boss immune to all these things. Nonone is going to want to invite Joe the Moon Mage to help kill Monster X if Joe can do anything to help. As I said, I hope this doesn't become a trend. Adjusting to overpowered players in this way will ruin the gameplay. Hopefully they will reevaluate what they've done and change a mobs resists instead.

I see your point to a degree, and if this was a class based system where you could ONLY use moon magic then you are 100% correct.

However, even if you spec in Moon magic, there is nothing stopping you from using a sword or dagger for damage against a boss mob.

This change will make boss mobs harder and likely require a group... and your Moon spec Fireflies will be a welcome contribution.

How exactly is the banish undead spell changing? This spell is my bread and butter as a life mage and I'm really hoping they don't screw up my build.

Is it still a ranged attack spell but it effects things around the target? Is it a point blank area effect? Is it a ground target area effect?

I'll be happy if it's still a ranged attack and functions how it did until now. Could anyone who knows reply here? Thanks.

Ps Did they also reduce its damage?

I love this argument. It's so funny. Hey mister Melee the reason you suck at PVP is because you're not using MAGIC, so take off that sword and put a wand in your hand and you won't suck anymore. Hey mister Mage the reason you suck at PVE is because you're not a swordsman. So take of that wand and equip a sword and you'll do alright. After all it's a sandbox game except you need every skill to succeed, go figure. Yeah his Mage party is really gonna be singing his praises for that extra Dexterity debuff from Moon Specialization for when he attacks that Pheonix with a dagger to try and score an actual hit right before getting clawed to death. Please don't ever suggest anyone use a dagger for anything other than an off hand parry bonus weapon as it's damage is too pathetic to be even meaningful. Apparently Fixes in this game are as easy as just changing the weapon in your hand.

I like this argument too. I use it all the time because it's true. :p

I suggested a sword or a dagger meaning to use a weapon in general as an alternative (didn't want to list all the weapon options). When the poster above me said Meteor Showers was "the only means of damage available" I was just pointing out that there were other choices if they wanted them. Just because you spec into Moon magic doesn't mean you can't also use a weapon too... or another magic school for that matter. There are no restrictions in doing so (except maybe limiting your power in Light magic tree).

You don't need every skill or spell to succeed. But if you think picking only one school (and that's it) is going to work... you are sadly mistaken. Have a backup plan for those moments when your best option doesn't work well.

And, if you (not you specifically, I mean you as in anyone) take Moon spec with the intentions of it making you better for DPS, then I think you might have made a poor choice to begin with because that school doesn't have a lot of damage options to improve.

That said, a Moon Spec mage can still be a big help to a party killing any boss mob. Fireflies will help the whole party get better crits. Also, not sure if you know this or not, but the crit calculation compares your Dex to the targets Dex and if the Moon Spec gives an added Dex debuff then yes, that will be a big help to the whole party also.
