Well and cooking is one tree that is not completed. The same with fishing and agriculture. These 3 systems all need attention.

Foods other than high tier food have little value and use. We totally need foods to have some use besides to level up the skill.

Killing them is a mercy. Why doom them to a slow painful death by stealing their food supply? Lol.

I was frustrated about cooking oil too.
Pecan nuts are scarce to harvest.
I was so happy when I stumbled on the fact that I could buy pecans from some obscure back alley merchant.

Seriously, the Cooking Skill needs a ton of Love from the devs.
It is tedious & tiresome & very easy to give up on :(

There is one simple reason why cooking requires so many steps. because Richard wants it that way. He enjoys that cooking requires many ingreidents, so as to be slightly more realistic than one click and done. From the beginning discussions about cooking Richard's comments were about cooking being complicated.

I think realistic would be that it is better to put an carcass on an BBQ after some marinading and adding spices than leaving it in the hot ashes, but booth results into more or less edible food....

I purchase food from player vendors about half the time. I have the recipe and can make most of what I buy, but it's those times I really don't want to find the recipe and write down everything I need, then go through a couple of loading screens to get to the town NPC cooking vendor. Let those who enjoy that level of simulation make 1k from me. I do appreciate that cooking (and much crafting in SotA) isn't a mindless 1-button exercise.

Well Pine Trees are just evil to begin with... if they have pecans, then they stole them from the Pecan Trees! Down with Pine!

There is also an NPC that sells pecans in Bramble. Which is nice because there are free jars in a lot of the buildings in Tenebris just laying around. I would like it if we could use some rendered animal fat to do the same job though... Just think if we got bacon grease for cooking when we made bacon.

I posted this suggestion in August 2013 discussion on cooking buffs.
And here are some food buffs off the top of my head.
    FOOD BUFFS
    - Shoo fly pie buffs fishing skill
    - A Blackbird pie that releases a bird in the direction of treasure.
    - Woodsman Pie that hues different wood trees making them easier to spot.
    - Foods that will entice monsters to it.
    - Jolly Jelly, when given to a vendor results in a discount.
    - Elderberry pie makes you grow a grey beard.
    - Hair Pie that...oh, scratch that.
    - Catfish Pie that makes cats follow you.
    - A bowl of noodles that arppegiates each note played on an instrument
    - Bear steak buffs things made from bear, dragon steak buffs things made from dragon, etc. This would give a benefit to matching armor, such as bearclaw gloves, bear fur vest, bear leather hat.
    - Mugly Rice dessert turns you into a toad.

Only a few Vendors sell them. You will have to explore more to find them.

Also if you didn’t know, chopping down trees also drop pecan nuts.

lol, sorry.. i was just commenting that in RL i’ve not seen “pecan oil” or oil made from pecans before. i’ve seen vegetable oil, sunflower oil, sesame oil, etc., but not ever pecan oil.

I haven’t noticed any pecans dropping for me yet. I guess i haven’t chopped enough trees! >_<

You probably will start seeing them drop from Tier 2, or possibly Tier 3 area trees.

Though I only have around 450 of them and that is all from chopping a LOT of wood. ;) (To support my carpentry addiction).
