Left paperdoll is cool with the shadow flow. Right side is not so cool
I hope you guys think so too.

Right looks better. But that is just my opinion.

I'll go with the left one, if the resolution is improved. Torque needed a vote!

I kind of like the one on the left better.

The problem with the left one is that it's messy and doesn't match anything else in the UI. However, I'd argue that none of them are "cool".

SotA would be better off with no 3D-rendered paper-doll; it's redundant with our own character model in the middle of the screen. The following are much better in my mind:

    [IMG] [IMG]

The 2nd example I showcase is from Elder Scrolls Online and, while blurry (a lot of ESO's UI elements are blurry so at least it's consistent), it's straight to the point and would leave enough room on the screen to display character stats like our current character window does. It just wouldn't waste so much space.

As a Diablo fan, I'm mostly biased towards the Diablo-style inventory screen. It shows item quality and each item are quickly and easily identifiable due to the different sizes of the icons. That's what a good UI should strive to do.

In SotA's case, colour-coding item durability might be a boon since durability is an important element in the game and we shouldn't have to mouse-over items all the time.

I like the left one more then the right one. Loved the fading shadow from the left screen. The right one looks meh.. Boring.

3D model is required for putting dyes on clothes, and eventually being able to preview clothing before purchase.

I am wondering how much performance increase to implement a more "lightweight" paperdoll would be? As performance in SOTA is quite a big issue I would imagine displaying a full 3D paperdoll is kind of a bit overkill. I'm happy to go more lightweight like diablo style.

Left one for me all the way, if we have the right hand one, we should have just kept the border on it

Does this absolutely need to be previewed on that particular window, though? How often does one dye and preview clothes compared to merely managing equipment?

Never in my 3-4 years of playing this game, have I ever saw the need to see my character twice on screen.

If you're crafting or trading, shouldn't that functionality be part of their respected UIs?

That's highly dependent on how they approached it. It's the kind of thing that stays in memory after you open it for the first time. You are drawing yet another character but there's no AI, server-data transfer or collisions on it nor is it affected by any dynamic lights so it's not bogging down your computer that much.

Most of the issues are purely aesthetic and mechanical.

In the OP, that fade on the left image and that arch on the image on the right are only there because the 3D paper-doll is there and big. Neither should even be there. Even if you were to keep the 3D paper-doll, making it smaller would make everything fit in a smaller rectangular window... and thus would match the rest of the UI.

It's gotta be somewhere. If they move it somewhere else that's fine. If they put it on your in game model that's fine. But it's gotta be somewhere.

right one for me. the left one looks neat, but it's distracting. i open my paperdoll for information, not to look at the pretty.
