That is nice, very well done.
    I will be getting one.

Are they/will they be functional or entirely cosmetic?

Well if you ever played Ultima V, we were forced to leave our horse at a hitching post, otherwise they'd wander off. We know at least that we'll be made to dismount for combat or to enter buildings, so I'm assuming hitching posts will be a place to leave horses.

Didn't the mount disappear when you used a hitching post in UO?

I thought you were talking about posts about hitching. This was a nice surprise.

I wasn't aware hitching posts were in UO during the time I played a freeshard. If it did, it sounds like it was probably a way to protect your horse from aggro, while opening the hitching post up to other players.

I would probably argue for hitching posts automatically negating any aggro against your horse, so he could stand there in peace.

But otherwise they probably should operate the same way crafting tables do for multiple players using them at the same time, and the devs should just make sure high density areas (like big cities) have stables and such. It also would be an indirect way of letting you know there are other players in the city if you don't see them by eye.

Those, along with Pet Leashes, used to shrink the pets and put them in your backpack. @redfish , it may not have been implemented on the freeshard you were on. Depends on what patch you were running and whether or not the devs for that FS allowed shrunken pets or not. I remember when I first started a freeshard we could shrink NPC's with Pet Leashes and even dye them. :)

Right now, pets either go to your inventory or to a whistle when you dismiss them. I expect that mounts will work the same.

You know, this is amusing because the technology to lose horses existed in the 80s but we no longer have that as horses *cant* wander off the way our current systems work.

Yea, so do I, though to be honest, though while the whistle thing is okay, I don't like the whole 'dismiss' system whether we're talking about pets or buffs or whatever, because you're replacing game mechanics with a tiny right click menu.

Its kind of annoying playing a RPG through tiny context menus. Would be great if the whistle call caused your pet to come in through the edges of your scene, too, instead of just materializing.

Well, pets can follow you. I'm not sure a horse would wander off, but maybe canter about in an area making himself a target.

They even say on that page... "Your horse can follow you into town". Well, i live in the woods and my horse won't follow me into town, nor get lost or leave my lot, as ye well know, so to me this is not like it was in the 80s :)

But you know, we have this going on in the game so, uh, priorities I guess.
