I could see a monthly sub working if it included cotos, supplies and perhaps unique items like the ones we get in the telethons.

I could see it working if the game is improved, so more population comes. And so, more subscriptions. If things keep the same, the population decrease will continue the same, and you will end having a lot of telethon items to play with yourself.
These things (a monthly sub) also will make even bigger the breach for new players to come.

There is a lot of time even iwacko stopped streaming SOTA :(.

Yes, I see how -technically- things go improving, and that is good. But would those things end bringing new players to the game?... A game played by a few hundreds is sustainable?
Even the SOTA always streamer are streaming other games now: Dulayin (Star Trek Online), Elgarion (The Lord Of The Rings), Iwacko (UO)...
But if you can't see the clues and you think it is going right, keep going.

As said above, improving is ok, maybe up to a level the devs are really happy with the result (and hopefully the combat system is greatly improved as well). And then call it SOTA 1.1 or whatever and do a fresh-something like a new server, wiped and pvp enabled to call new players.

Performance and combat and long term motivation to continue playing all need to receive a deep focus and improvement.

New player experience needs to be the primary focus for the next 6 months. Performance secondly, and only then can combat and long-term player-incentive be focused on.

If new players aren't having fun, the remaining diehards won't stay.

Those games you mention... have been out for a very long time... they too have had their populations rise and fall... they too have had constant improvements to their games. All was not there in the beginning. In fact, some of it was quite horrible. It's taken a long time to get to where those games are today and a hell of a lot of input and continued development. If you can't see that either... enjoy your journey as well.

So did SotA in the time period leading up to R51 and afterwards, just to point to one such instance. I know it doesn't fit in the agenda of smearing SotA whenever you can though.

That's not what I typed, nor what I implied. Are you going to continue your negative agenda?

    Reality isn't an agenda .....
It doesn't mean he doesn't want to see a rise.

With the time I have free to play, I've noticed an increase in the population these last few months.

One example. Etceter has been one of those towns where people run in and run out. Usually don't stay long. Even if they have a dwelling. These last few months I've noticed an increase in the number of visitors and especially people sticking around socializing, PVP Fighting or whatever. I'm in the habit of watching the nearby players list when I run around. It's not always busy. However frequently I'm not all alone in that small town :)

Oh and yes I get out and quest a bit. It's how I found this nice Shroud ;-)

Just ignore the naysayers. I usually do.
