    If the max xp loss from decay was capped at the same level you can gain it, the current system would be fair. As others have mentioned, gaining 1 mil xp within an hour is too easy. My current decay on first death/ankh res is a little over 800k. I can deal with losing about an hour of grind. Those players, that are at that next level, lose 3, 4 or 5 mil on death really feel the sting. Granted those players don't die nearly as often as the rest of us.

    This is the negative perception that I was talking about earlier. If you are not one of those players that grinds all the time then decay doesn't hurt you or hold you back. It's simply this notion that it's going to that people don't like. In reality, it doesn't.

    There were a lot of assumptions made in those threads that's likely no longer be valid...(and his replies in many others -- just search for "decay" on his posts...there are plenty good ones)

    Just re-reading all those posts, so many fixes, so many edge cases, so many workarounds, so many bugs, adventuring vs crafting, etc, etc, etc, ... just to maintain the system.

    So....hard caps?

    Decay automatically scales with your ability to gain experience, that's built in. I'm a pretty casual player, I've been playing the same avatar since persistence, my avatar is now AL 92 and he has 17 GMs. Decay is totally trivial to me. The stronger I get, the easier it is to gain experience.

    I never was a fan of decay..so im glad its going away... just put some enticing items or mechanics ..with expiring date on them...that players can spend their xp on ...if they choose to.

    I agree. I dont really want that either. But hits to durability actually make a lot of sense as the death penalty for this game. It helps drive the crafting economy (a central feature of the game) better. XP decay contributed to no other game system except by promoting more grinding.

    That's the argument that I keep hearing but what will happen is that people won't bother with high-end gear knowing that it'll just get trashed. It's a bad solution.
