Shouldn't summoning whistles wear out over time?

They never lose durability, so as long as you don't mess up and lose your animal, they are forever.

I would agree if my summoning whistle were quickly whittled from a random piece of driftwood. However I cut down 6 whole trees to craft my whistle from the best and strongest wood that Novia has to offer and imbued it with the magical strength of 8 silver ore. The whistle is subjected only to the occasional gentle touch of my lips and soft breath. I expect it to last as long as Novia itself. Even if I chewed on it I would expect my teeth to wear down before a dent was made in the whistle.

Of course, maybe you did whittle your whistle from driftwood in which case I agree that it shouldn‘t be as durable as mine :)

I'd not mind if you could also transfer the pet on the worn down whistle to a new one, but it seems a fairly pointless change to make if you can do that (yet more mindless grinding for a massively disproportionate amount of materials to make a whistle so small you wear it on a necklace!) - and given a lot of people regard 'their pets' as parts of the character they are playing, making them 'die' because a whistle wears out is never going to be even slightly popular with them. Bringing in a change that will be unpopular with some players is happening an awful lot lately, this is really not a situation that justifies yet another alienating mechanic.

I'm pretty sure that they take damage if you take damage.

The whistle is fine the way it is.

I don't believe they take any damage even if you take damage.

Maybe if they could be enchanted or masterworked they should take damage. The way they are now is just fine.

Sorry to gatecrash your thread Vladamir but I've been away since July. Has anything changed with Pets and summoning since then? Thanks :)
