I just look the enviroment and water. Lakes and rivers - fresh waters Ocean/sea - Salt waters Swamps - fetid waters
I kinda wondered this myself, being brand new to fishing (like 1 hour). I was fishing around out city island which would be salt water to me. But the fish I am catching appear to be fresh water fish based on the wiki.
I believe currently, ALL player owned towns are fresh water. Regardless of the setting. NPC towns (like Aerie) are saltwater. Dungeons and swamps are fetid.
What would Celestis be since it's an island city, but on a lake, not an ocean (unless the lake it is on is a salt water lake/inland sea)?
Kiln Cistern is fresh water. Or at least, I was catching the same fish I catch in POTs, including minnows. Solania seemed to be fresh water, even in the swampy areas.
That’s the problem..... but you kinda can tell by the fish you catch. But even then we don’t even know if that is correct....
LOL. I have said this from the beginning that the wAter clarification is not good....but really no way for them to make it look different i guess. Salt water could be a differnt tint of blue , swamp would be murky greenish, fresh water would be clear. Only way i can tell salt water is on coastlines it looks kinda foamy. But that doesnt mean anything. And frankly i dont like the idea of catching fresh water fish in salt or fetid water....makes no sense to me. Basically i just fish wherever and hope for the best.
I would note there are a number of fish that can and do live in both fresh and salt waters. So it's entirely reasonable to catch some species in both (Salmon and some Trout for example can both do this).
Any other node shows the name when collecting; since fishing doesn't have that, it would be nice if it would say the water type while the timer spins for your attempted catch. Then it works even if they end up having multiple water types in a since scene.
