It can happen for a multitude of reasons, There was a batch of previous nvidia drivers that had problems earlier in the year for example, I have read things like hardware with windows 10 trying to go idle or trying to randomly use the cpu instead of GPU, the community may work with you in main discord if you are interested. It surely isn't a one answer issue last I knew.

 

It might help if you provided us with your computer specs. In my experience, this game only runs well with fast harddrives (SSD's) and lots of RAM. I would personally suggest a minimum of at least 16GB of RAM.

 

Do you have the latest driver for your video card installed?

 

Also, are you using STEAM or the downloader off the SOTA website? Both can hiccup, but usually for different reasons.

On OSX there are no drivers to update

If you check the 98% thread its seems unrelated from computer specs, you can find quite different configs with the same problem.

In fact, when the game is stuck at 98% the cpu and ram usage is quite low

First thing to do with Steam is verify your files. Right click on the game name -> Properties -> Local Files -> Verify Integrity of Files

This has helped a lot of people, hopefully it works for you!

 

• Crashes may occur when running the game in MacOS Mojave. A workaround is to launch the game with -force-glcore (which can be added to the Launch Arguments box in the launcher options)

 

They've been having problems with OS X builds the past few months, see above message. It's a Unity problem, so not easy for Port to fix, other than wait for Unity to fix their shirt.

EDIT: if you are running Mojave, update to the latest version!

 

Welcome and I'm sorry you are unable to get the game going. I wish you the best luck. As others have given good advice one thing I'd say is your 8gb of ram is very low. I actually just got a new computer a year ago and got 32gb just to be set for a while . I hate not being able to play a game I want to play . Here are the recommended requirements and 12gb is the low end and I'd say 16 would be best . Anyway sending you good luck and i'm Majoria in game if I can ever help once you are in game.

I had issues when I first started, and for me it was the graphics card. You can find fairly inexpensive cards for your system on ebay, just be sure you use a vendor with a very very high user satisfaction rate...

A common mistake. Apple handles all device drivers below the level of the user in OS X--almost every OS X update introduces new drivers when and if the peripheral manufacturers make them available to Apple and Apple decides to use them! The fact that, unlike with Windows, device drivers cannot be directly installed/updated by the OS X customer, has led many to erroneously conclude that OS X doesn't use device drivers (which is pretty funny considering Macs use many of the same peripherals as found in Windows boxes, etc.) OS X does indeed use device drivers--they are simply locked away from the customer/user--that's the only difference. If you want personal control of things like device drivers in your system, Apple has at least been thoughtful enough to make Bootcamp a default, standard feature in OS X--so you can install Windows if you like and have far more control over your hardware and software environment than Apple allows in OS X. Even so, the hardware list available to OS X/Mac users is far smaller than the hardware device list of peripherals the manufacturers support under Windows. Just a couple of facts for you to consider as your experience grows...

 

Yeah when I'm screwed on the PC's, or travelling, I use a 2012 Macbook Pro running Bootcamp Win 10 that I put more RAM and an SSD in. It's still ancient, but with bootcamp it can handle Shroud. Not a pleasant way to play, but it works.

 

I play on a Retina iMac 2017. No Bootcamp required. You do need to be on 10.14.2 or later if you run Mojave tho.

 

Both can hiccup, but usually for different reasons.
