Ideas for Names?

I'm just now getting back into SotA and I'm having trouble creating a good character name for my avatar. As we all know God kills a kitten every time someone chooses a silly/stupid name for themselves. Unfortunately I'm very left-brained and am therefore uncreative and am also the reason why 37 kittens have died over my lifetime.

My question to the general public is, how did you all come up with your character names and what was the inspiration? And does anyone have any naming advice for new players?

 

Use a name generator? Like this or this or this or even this or countless others. Just play around a little until you find one that sounds good and fits the vision you have for your character. Good luck.

 

I am reminded of my favorite Minecraft video series where the author settled on a viking backstory and gave his horses, dogs and cat in the game real viking names that he found on the internet. I think that a character name can be more satisfying if it has some significance or reason behind it. That needn’t be a backstory, it could be anything that you can relate to.

Hello @Thagadore and again welcome. I love creating names for my characters. In most games I've played which is only about a zillion I create different names for each game I play and don't repeat names. Well only this game did I recall a name from the past. Majoria was from Ultima Online and no other game since until this one. I was just playing around with the word Magery since I was making her a mage at first but it ended up being Majoria somehow. I was never going to play her again but I was really excited about this game and decided to resurrect her.

So anyway you can always take your favorite things like if it was cats or kittens and play around with those words. Like Lady Kitteria or General Kats . Maybe a song you like such as Blue Bayou or Sky Blue. Whatever you choose just have fun with it. So good luck and enjoy. I'm Majoria in game if I can help.

While you are thinking about the backstory see what comes up for a name?

 

Try something out of left field, like Thagadore

Edit: not to be flippant, I actually like the name!

 

I’m using the Egyptian name of Egyptian gods. But just because I love Egyptian mythology.

You know what @majoria70? My UO character name was Thagadore (nickname: Thag). So I think I'll keep things as is for now at least. I'll check out @Helvig's name generation sites to get a good surname. Thanks all!

I hit the generate more button six times, and sadly no band name came up that would make me want to listen to their music. Well, except "Fluffy Midwinter" and "Sinful Unicorn" perhaps...

 

@redfish My inspiration for the name Thagadore came to me about 18 years ago when I was building a giant LEGO mecha and my friend asked me what I was going to name it. I originally thought I would call it "Thag" because it looked a bit like a caveman but then I realized that the name needed to sound more formal. So I then thought about Alvin and the Chipmunks and about how Theodore was named (surprisingly) Theodore. So I borrowed the last part of that name and added it onto Thag. And so Thagadore was born!

 

Theodore was the best chipmunk, too !

 

@blacktortoise If only I could name my character Goat Martyr. That would be awesome.

 

The character I made for the sixth character slot in Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord was named "Def". Def exists because Abc died.

 

In case no one mentioned it, you only have to have a single name, not a last one.
