Needed musical instruments

The hornpipe.
Reasons: common for sailor's music ("hornpipes"), and puts a "horn" instrument in the game, which can be emulated in other varieties for things "fire horns."


Tin whistle, or penny whistle.
Reasons: used in sea shanties, also good for folk tunes and sylvan music.


Bodhran.
Reasons: because its needed for sea shanties.


Panpipes.
Reasons: because we have fauns and satyrs in the game -- what other reason is needed? Also a good solo instrument for a forest wanderer and would be nice in the form of artifacts.


Ocarina.
Reasons: so Zelda fans like @Link_of_Hyrule can live out their fantasies of being Zelda game characters.


Lyre.
Reasons: they're better than harps, can be played in idyll, and show up in the form of magical artifacts.


Mandolin.
Reasons: because bards.


Aulos.
Reasons: another satyr instrument that can show up in artifacts.


Trumpet.
Reasons: to announce the coming of Lord British, of course. (And other events).



War horn.
Reasons: use in battle, battle calls, artifacts.


Fiddle, or violin if you want to be modern about it (wanna fight about it?).
Reasons: instrument that seems should be there for players, symbolism, etc., plus has uses in artifacts.


Shawm.
Reasons: a more adult reed pipe instrument than the recorder, which any normal player would feel embarassed about playing, for fear of being teased as being a child.


Clarinet, or chalumeau if you want to go medieval.
Reasons: seems needed.


Blown bottle and jugs.
Reasons: sea shanties and such.


Conch shell.
Reasons: we're going to need shells, and making some usable as instruments would give them more purpose, add to lore, be available on some mobs (sirens, merfolk, nereids), and useful as artifacts.


Ram's horn.
Reasons: similar but for a different terrain.


Aetheric/electric lute.
Reasons: because kobolds love punk. (thread)

We have a cowbell. I was thinking about the kind of thing you'd use for Christmas carols.

Sitars would actually be pretty cool in the game if the devs want to throw in something non-Western. (Besides the ocarina).



The devs of course would need to let us play instruments (and do emotes) while sitting on the ground.

Kobolds can also play electric sitars

In real life play the Tin Whistle and ocarina isI love to see both in game. I have a Killarney Tin Whistle and Tony Dixon low d polycarbonate whistle.

 

Lovely ideas. I'm still waiting for a horn or trumpet as well. I have many songs asking for horn and clarinet parts. It's ok and also interesting and fun to improvise when syncing songs but hopefully soon we'll fill in more of the missing instruments.
