combat system seems way different than it was

I'm fairly new to game. All the guides I see about combat, glyphs etc. talk about a sort of random draw and stacking, combo system. Was this taken out or have to be unlocked? My gameplay has just been like a standard mmorpg where you have static abilities then a cooldown. Is the stacking/combo only available in free attack mode?

I looked within game, and after pressing Y, I noticed a combo menu tab. Don't know how to make combos though. I placed two glyphs as an example to the right, but they didn't join together.

I think you need to talk to a skill trainer in one of the Main cities, they unlock that ability.

It's still there but some time back they added the ability to "charge up" the locked glyphs, so it's not as useful as it used to be. To charge up a glyph, just hold down the hotkey or the mouse button.

Essentially, you have a group of skills/glyphs and the game gives you the choice of locking them or rotating them. most people lock most situational skills and rotate the rest. Let me know what skills you are looking to specialise and ill give you a deck that'll be fun.

I wouldn't worry about it too much at first. It takes a while to get the hang of stuff and you don't have a lot of abilities in the beginning anyway, so stick with what works for you and you enjoy.

I would definately watch the twitch videos or youtube videos of experienced players and watch the various things they do, that can give you tips on how to setup decks. You can learn alot from that, as long as they're experienced and it's not those videos where the guys play the outskirts for a few hours and give up.

The main thing is you are always going to want multiple decks for specific situations with linked equipment. That way you can start learning to switch decks. Many do buff deck / fight deck or town deck / fight deck or pet deck / sword and shield deck, etc.. I even have a deck for bathing. So the more the merrier.

your town deck should be geared to speed items so you can move around zones and the map as fast as possible.

When you have one deck as an "alt" you get that button in the bottom left of the screen to allow quick switching. And tactics helps you improve how decks works too, check out the skills there.

This is my deck, its not conventional but it is fun, I probably combo at least 50% of my attacks with this deck, you combo by hitting both icons that are highlighted green and that joins them together. I have a few things in this deck that are just there for training the skill.

Mostly interested in the combos. Don't care for the random draw aspect, prefer static. I have a gaming mouse, so use my side buttons and don't have to stare as much at hotbar. Hate looking at a hotbar while missing the action. Rather look at the animations, plus a lot of foes run away etc. need to look at them over playing whack a mole with a hotbar.

    Thanks for all the replies!

Hey there @Stabbath Welcome back to New Britannia!

I'm quite similar to you: I don't like taking my eye off the ball. I also develop muscle memory for combos/stacks and do everything in my power to avoid changing that.

I have 8 melee decks that all rely on a similar build out.

    * I have locked glyphs that I always want available, such as defensive glyphs. I power up every 30 seconds to 1 minute, so I don't want to be out of the fight.

    * I have some unlocked slots for combos. Because the combo isn't always available, I also through in some unlocked cards that I can use in the same situation as my combo. In slot 3 I have thrust; in slot four I have thrust and double slash. As a result, when I see 3 and 4 are populated with my peripheral vision, I combine them and something nice happens. Might be a quadruple slash, might be a powered up thrust. This gives me faster attacks than just using those two slots for combo only.

Don't underestimate the value of your unlocked slots. The stronger you get, the more copies of each card there are available, which means you'll have a higher/faster utilization of that card.

I only use 2 unlocked slots in most of my decks, but I frequently use single cards as they pop up instead of waiting for the combo.

In the future I'd like to go a bit more advanced, like @Nevyn Waldail

I don't think you can combo of two locked glyphs but you can from 1 locked Glyph.

lol, I'm virtually solely responsible for your resurrection skill so not sure how advanced it is:)

One thing you could do is drag the hot bar up so that it's closer to the action.

It would be almost impossible to combine glyphs using the side buttons on your mouse. You combine them either by dragging one glyph onto another (compatible) glyph or by holding down the hotkey for one and then pressing the hotkey for the other.
