Here's a braided crown style I found that I think resembles better the painting detail from the medieval hair styles page.. I don't know if it would be better for the game, but it was worth posting here..

As for beard styles, honestly, I don't remember every style that was in R2 (is it on the wiki?) so I don't know if these are redundant,

Hair style in that one is nice, too. Another variation of what I was requesting in the first post, albeit a bit longer. This was a style that was from the Sims Medieval and converted back to the regular game. Its a clean and sharp goatee & mustache, handsome looking.

And some styles by Pierce Brosnan,

    Something more for wizard characters,

In my opinion It would be nice if not all characters looked like they had just walked out of a salon.....

The problem with any particularly long hairstyle.. and by that I mean anything shoulder length or longer.. has to be animated to be compatible with all torso pieces and cloaks. Otherwise you're guaranteed to have some serious clipping issues. This goes for beards too.

Do you think there are issues with helmets too, or would the game just remove the hair before putting the helmet on?

usually the simplest solution is that the hair is a separate mesh from the head.. and yes is 'removed' and replaced with a helmet.. especially true if the helmet would hide the hair anyway. This eliminates clipping issues all together. Where as hats would include hair. Something like a circlet or headband though might just overlap.

What they could possibly do (though it could look off ) is associate the longer part of a hairstyle with the torso rather than the head. The problem in doing this is the hair will stretch during animation.

I don't want to stifle anyone's imagination.. but I think this is an area where people should understand there's still some pretty big technical hurdles to overcome with long hair. The tech just isn't out there to do what we want yet. Hair is a solid 3d mesh and suffers from all the same problems as an article of clothing or armor.

Forgot about that Bowen. So true.
Something so simple like long hair and a helmet in Skyrim was a huge issue. It didn't matter how long your hair was when you put on a helmet your hair disappeared. There were a few mods that actually made helmets invisible and I recall stuffing around for a few hours on this one because it annoyed me that something that I felt was so simple had not been incorporated.

I believe quite a few of the Apache Hair Skyrim textures were somehow ripped from "The Sims 3"

I will point out I always appreciated the hair physics mods that changed how the hair moved when you ran or in wind.....again 80 mil budget vs 3 mil but it is a very nice effect and makes your Avatar a lot more life like. It's good to dream :)

Somehow? lol I'm about 99% sure that Apache made those hairs for Sims 3. :)

Something I've found very amusing from mod communities for a little while now is how people have taken hair meshes made for one game and ported them over to others. I've played Sims from Sim 1 to maybe half way through the Sims 3 eps before finally becoming fed up enough with EA to stop paying for their.. well I digress.. but the point is there's several folks out there specializing in custom hair meshes. I would see them in Sims first (as far back as Sims 2) and those exact same meshes would end up in Oblivion or Skyrim and I'd just have to laugh.

They either crossed over through the original creator or most I believe were given credits. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see some show up for single player SotA mods but players will have to accept there will be clipping issues associated with many of them and possibly performance issues as well since many of those custom meshes have very high poly counts.

Also - if there is a limited selection of hair styles, can you please not waste half the options with hairdos straight out of tank girl like some other nameless games?

    *clicking through*

"Lessee, bald, mohawk, spikes, cornrows, rat tail, shag, pony tail, long hair, bald, mohawk, spikes.... what the hell? Where are the normal choices?"

The trend seems to be to pile up on the weird/punk choices whilst skipping the basics like bangs.

Both those together are awesome. I will definitely hit that style up if it is available. Add some tattoos all over my arm. Might have to make a thread about creating an upright bass for interactive instruments.

I realized that there were no examples yet of strong, burly beards. We have neat, trimmed beards, and wild viking beards, and wizard's beards.

This is a common way to depict Árpád, the legendary founder of Hungary.. notice the distinct mustache and beard.
