    The trouble I am having when I'm playing SOTA is in Ardoris I have 8-17 FPS. In most other scenes I range between 32-60 fps. Is it supposed to be like that?

    I guess I also get bad fps in Resolute as well. Sitting down playing the lute and I'm at 16 fps.

    To my knowledge Adoris was one of the first citys that got a revmap to at least hit 20fps on a 08/15 gaming rig.
    And I can't see a bottleneck in your set up.
    So, no, I don't think it should be like that ^^

    Hardware seems sound. What kind of operating system are you running? Do you have anything installed that "speeds up" your PC or otherwise claims to optimize some aspect of it? Do you have more than one virus scanner installed? Are there any overrides specified for 3D graphics in the Nvidia Settings Panel?

    Just curious, do you have an anti-virus tool that might trying to scan the files inside SotA folder?

    Yes my FPS in Adoris and Resolute are also that crap. Between 8 - 15FPS
    This is normal behaviour I guess.

    By the way that is on Windows 10, on Linux its worse.

    I haven't been to Resolute in a while. I'll try to head over there soon and get an idea of my FPS, too. My system config is quite lean.

    UPDATE: Okay, sitting where the OP was sitting, I got around 26fps until nightfall. When the scene lighting changed, it fell to 18fps and stayed there. Wandering around Resolute in the daytime I'm above 30fps and at nightfall I get around 23fps for most of the map, which is technically playable but still half of the FPS I expect to see at a minimum in any game I play, so I'm going to have to agree with the other posters that you're probably around the performance that most everyone else experiences plus or minus 10fps depending on their rigs and OS.

    My rig:

    Lubuntu 18.04
    MSI B85M-E45
    Intel i7-4790K @ 4.2 GHz
    G.Skill 16GB DDR3 RAM @ 1600MHz
    EVGA NVIDIA GTX 970 w/ 4GB RAM
    Corsair Force-LE 960GB SSD
    WDC WD40EZRZ-00GXCB0 3TB HDD
    Corsair RM750i PSU

    First loading into the scene, I'm running 38 fps, nighttime. Standing in "center" of town by the bank, (lots of NPCs) I drop to 27 fps but then surge up to 30fps also still night. Running around can drop me to 20fps.

    Not seeing much difference during the day

    What's everyone's resolution and quality settings?

    Here's what I'm getting, sitting at the same spot in Resolute, same camera angle and tweaked FOV to get the same view:

    OS: Windows 10 (10.0.0) 64bit
    CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz (8) System RAM: 32728
    GPU: NVIDIA TITAN X (Pascal) GPU RAM: 12048
    SotA.Win.64.916.Date.02.15.19

    25-30 FPS
    Resolution = 2560 x 1537 (window)
    Quality = Best
    Shadow = Max
    Reflections = High
    All other graphic options Enabled

    36-42 FPS
    Resolution = 2560 x 1537 (window)
    Quality = Fastest
    Shadow = None
    Reflections = Low
    All other graphic options Disabled

    No, no bloatware that "speeds up" my computer.
    No there are no overrides specified for 3D Graphics in the nVidia Panel.
    I use Malwarebytes once a month to run scans for malware and windows defender is always running in the background.

    Sota is the only game I'm having FPS issues with. No problems in the witcher 3 or Deus Ex Mankind Divided, I get around 173 average fps on Deus Ex, and stay at 60+ fps on the Witcher 3.

    I have my settings set on best, because I've built my computer so it could handle highest settings on triple a titles at 1080p.

    I think what the results above are demonstrating is that it's not your system. SotA simply needs much more optimization...to put it lightly.

    You're going to have to sacrifice some settings to increase your FPS. Just don't hold your breath any time soon (...or ever) for SotA to get significantly faster, especially in problematic areas such as towns.

    Just to add more valuable info here.

    Updated last week from a 970 to a new 2060 rtx. I got 60-80% performance boost on every game except SotA. Want to mention I play at 1440p (2k), thats why I updated my card.

    Higher fps on adventure scenes but POTs and npc towns still has lot of performance issues, 30 fps on heavy housing locations with the 2060.

    It's Unity guys we've known this for years. They even discussed ditching the engine and that it would cost 8 million. It's nothing to do with GPU power.

    Make sure under video settings to turn off Peripheral Lighting. Its designed for syncing the lights on some Keyboards and mice to the game. The problem with it is that some how it affects the GPU frame rate by about 50% which is crazy. That will bump up your FPS. If you have it disabled already then you have other issues going on. I play on a laptop 1070 6gb with no issues other then a few zones. I do find that when enter player towns the textures take a bit to load. some times they seem faster others much slower. really depends on town I think.

    Ardoris is VERY bad in performance. Sorry to tell you.

    Ardoris and Aeria are the two worst zones in the game for performance, even worse than the worst Player Owned towns.

    There are a lot of NPCs there, and often a lot of other players. You could try turning of fabric physics simulation. That will often boost performance substantially.

    Just be glad you don't have enemies there (unless you are flagging PvP, of course.)

    I am really thinking they made a mistake not designing the larger NPC towns with leaf occlusion in mind.

    Leaf Occlusion is a form of Occlusion Culling used in modern video games, in which open levels are subdivided using leaf-tree catalogs of what is viewable from where to reduce the Potential Visible Set before the Z-Buffer pass is used to further cull hidden objects. This saves from having to consider the whole screen for z-occlusion testing.

    Optimizing level design for Leaf Occlusion is why so many games have large view obstructing objects such as hills, or buildings as well as winding valleys. This helps reduce the area that can be seen from various other regions.
