The general wisdom in the gaming industry is that single player games are dead. There's an article on Gamasutra about it right now.

He's covering several MMOs and according to Metacritic his Gamestar review of SotA was the best review the game got.
Given the wide range of articles he writes, I trust that he also picks up any major "positive" change that might come to SotA.

The articles closing lines actually portray the current situation well - what's left of the community is split and the game itself does not have a material player base. He even acknowledges that the division among the players is detriment to the success of the game but that it was a long development that led to today's situation.
His summary that the SP part lacks the technology for questing and phasing has been confirmed by the devs, as has the focus on housing and social interaction (fishing, dance parties?). If th user base - after F2P - does not grow it is certainly not from articles like this or the Reddits.

Though there's a difference between lack of demand, and a reluctance to create them because they're not cash cows. If AAA developers stop making SP games, they'll stop getting my money.

Thank you everyone for your feedback. Closing the thread as it has devolved to personal attacks.
