    Hi all,

Does anyone know what happened to the map on the Linux build?

After today's update I get a message saying something along the lines of "not currently available on Linux" but it was working fine until now (Slackware -current).

    Cheers.

    From patch notes:

    Updates:

    • Fix bug that prevented players from rejoining universe/trade chat after re-logging.
    • Disabling in-game map for linux clients while we work on a fix for it hanging clients.
    • More fixes for terrain textures – look for another patch soon to resolve the issue.
    • Pirate Headwrap no longer clips with forehead, curly hair. Headwrap now has all hair “tucked in”.
    • Bear no longer has teeth protruding strangely through lower jaw while sitting.
    • Updated loot bundles on player dungeon creatures.
    • Adding recipes and blueprints for encounter rooms to the loot tables.
    • Fixed Dyable Cake not being dyable.

    Thanks.

It must be a strange one though, because on both Slackware and Arch it didn't hang once.

Looks like I'll just be alt-tabbing to the map on here for a while then :)

that's especially odd because the one reported case i know of was also on arch.

I see no reason to play without a world map. I am waiting for the resolution of the problem ...

If you want then you can use the web map
    https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/map/
It usually has more info than the one in game.

Due to load times in high traffic/deco areas I mostly prefer it in cities. While in dungeons one wants the directional arrow.

I look forward to it coming back.

Running Ubuntu and don't recall seeing any issues with it.

It's a shame really. They fix windows problems on the basis that 'there are more users' which is true, but the problems they are fixing effect a small percentage of problems for a small percentage of users even on the windows platform.

The Linux map not being displayed is across the board for every single Linux user. They should take note that Linux users have better hardware than any other OS, and are more likely to spend a lot more money on a game than any other OS. I probably would have spent maybe $50-$100 as a minimum on this game but have since moved to project gorgon..

Edit to add: But I might be back as soon as they get their sheet together... depends.. I love the game (played Ultima 1-4) but I'm not gonna hold out for it.

I'm so used to not having an in-game map that I don't even care about this. There's a super frustrating issue with the Linux client that is many years old at this point. That is, while holding down the right mouse button in order to turn the camera (mouselook), if any UI window opens or closes then the cursor becomes visible, the mouselook sensitivity increases and you can't turn the camera any more when the cursor reaches the edge of the screen. Portalarium continues to hold the idea that this is a Unity issue (in order to ignore my complaints) but this issue was introduced by them when they implemented "retical mode". This issue continues to plague me today, after many years.

I wonder how long it takes this time for Portalarium to fix the issue.

I use ubuntu mate 18.04 on my machine and the game runs perfectly. i have no video issues and the new fix for the map is working quite well so far. i want to say thank you to the dev team for fixing the map issue it was driving me nuts. i was working on setting up the game on lutris so i could run the windows version on wine when i found out that they had made the map available to linux players. I'm very excited. lets all remember we chose to be the elite few who choose not to conform to the confines of restricted information and the monopoly that is "windows". if we really want to make a difference lets support our dev team and give some positive input and positive suggestions to help them develop the game for people like us all over the world who CHOOSE! to be elite. thank you again dev team for the map!!!!!

apparently unity 2019.1 has many Linux improvements. I'm not sure when / if portalarium will switch to 2019.1 , it's still fresh off the presses.

The map is back so to speak.

They added a warning dialog on opening it that it might cause problems on some systems.
I think this is a much better solution considering the small number of systems affected by the bug.
