This sounds like it might have been a temporary connection issue. Are you still blocked from talking with Samael or can you talk to him now?

I think that instance of Samael has a "I will never talk to you ever again" mode, except there's an exception for the ring side quest.

    Ah, I see now.

Some NPCs have special conversation overrides that stop you from having a full conversation with them. It looks like this version of Samael has such an override if you have finished the path of Love storyline. Did you finish the entire path of Love storyline?

Then that's why he won't talk to you. His override is active and he'll only reply with a short comment.

...I'm not sure I like that, however. You two have been through a lot together. I'm not sure why he's blowing you off. At least, that's how I interpret it. I'll look into leaving his normal conversation open so you can continue to chat with him. No Jira tho... I'm a rebel like that!

Changed my mind. I did make a Jira: 64501. Also, already checked in that change for next release.

GOOD! i hate the "won't talk to you anymore" thing. for almost everyone, it doesn't make sense. marigold in owl's head, or myra if you tell her you kiled her brother, sure, but they have a REASON for not talking to you.

Yeah considering what you both went through, even a “It’s nice to see you again friend. I apologize but I don’t have time to talk. I still have much to think about. Thank you for helping me.”.

I’ll assume you have a function that can check the Love Quest and if you finished it. If so, you would get that response.

    Yep! That's what I did.

The only unavoidable thing that can happen in a case like this is if the NPC has a keyword that makes no practical sense outside the situation. For example, we might have a keyword that is "tell me the mission" which is good to give you the quest, but won't be going away after you complete the mission. In some cases I can swap the long keyword for something short, like "mission," but in complicated conversations the keyword has too many "tendrils" for me to swap it with something else. Anyway, just some insights into the life of a flag-based conversation designer!
