As we saw last release, they DO have the ability to add snow to the game as weather, as well as effects to give to the ground as the seasons change. Some people HATED this, some people were extremely confused by this, and others (like myself) really loved this. What is your opinion if weather effects would change, as the seasons change IN GAME? Such as, it is now Winter in game. There would now be snow (when there is heavy precipitation), and the ground would show frost. But this would go away when Spring comes etc....

For extra credit, make seasonal variations of appropriate trees/shrubs.

It would be awesome that's for sure. I'm just not sure the cost benefit of in-game performance and development time could be worth it. If it's just a simple shader, that'd be amazing.

it could probably be a shader for three out of four for most plants, with a few needing a bare-branches version

I'd also suggest turn on/off cities lights based on daytime. That could actually help performances also :)

Not so sure on this, places like Harvest are designed around a permanent autumn ('fall' for the Americans...) not sure seasonal weather would work there.

    I love this idea!!!

Maybe let the POT decide if it follows the seasons, but I wondered if the weather I saw was on purpose. It was very nice. I didn't notice the effects on the ground. What were they like?

I would like to see visual changes of the seasons too and maybe till EP5 the devs might even change more than just visuals of a scene.
E.g. during the winter there are nearly no bears in the open while they instead appear in some caves-like scenes.
Or in spring/summer you can see groups of adult and multiple young animals while during autumn/winter just mature animals roam the scenes.
Or in swamp scenes there could be insect swarms as decoration or maybe even as enemies. During winter none of them is visible, during spring and autumn they are quite common but during summer they are nearly everywhere.
Or the gear/loot of human enemies could vary depending on the season. E.g. in normally warm scenes the enemies drop during winter uncommon winter clothing, while during spring, summer and autumn they drop normal clothing or in cold scenes it is reverse with some uncommon summer wear.
Maybe seasons could even someday influence the growing in our gardens. E.g. for each seed is defined a specific weather condition it is growing most fruitful and one it is most hardscrabble like planting potatoes in the novian spring is most productive while harvesting them during winter is less effective.

they've started doing that a little, with more hoppers in cotton bushes in summer.

There was talk once about this long ago that they had planned for weather stuff. not sure though if it was just limited to snow falling etc but I am sure they could do it, anything is possible with time and money :)

Not to be an arse here but surely that's a simple switch statement in the scene loading code?

Not to be a pedantic arse either, but it does actually rain in the desert. Albeit nowhere near to the levels it rains in New Britannian deserts, but it does happen. ;)
