That attitude can only be held on so many topics before it's death by a thousand cuts. If you don't like the overland map and quit, good riddance. If you don't like the combat and quit, good riddance. Something like this is causing them to bleed people, money and resources for something that's not benefiting them.

Nothing bad about RMT it's like Selling used games to the game store when you no longer need them to get some cash back :) just have to be smart about who you deal with

    Docking at your port soon
Our opinion of RMT differ. Port sells items in the crown shop, Port Sells COTOs, players sell COTOS as well so it’s an intricate economic feature. I sympathize for those trusting players who were scammed yet many transactions will continue to happen either as they currently are in the player marketplace or on a separate off game board.

Port will not police it to avoid more QOL issues especially while trying to increase the player base. As long as there are folks in game with discretionary funds it will continue to happen. I sell in game gold and others power level for money. It’s a matter of who invests their time in obtaining what they want and who wants it now and has the economic means to do it. Fully in agreement that people need to use their brains when trading - if it is too good to be true, if the seller is a new profile, etc.

However, Port can add all the wording it wants to the forum, but that doesn't necessarily absolve them of responsibility. It's a fine line - "here's a place in our house (forum) that you can trade. We benefit from these trades because people buy items from us, sometimes to resell. But if you get scammed in our house, it's not our problem."

That is a precarious road to tread once scams start happening (I can't believe it took this long, honestly, but it speaks the general great nature of the player base). The past benefit of the rmt forum (people potentially buying more items from Port that they eventually resell) may now be outweighed by the risks presented by bad things happening in that forum and the potential liability.

It sucks, as others note RMT won't go away, but instead will just go to more questionable places on the internet. But there probably just is no longer a great upside for Port to keep it here.

I understand how some people feel about RMT in this game. RMT is not a charity. We do it to make money. Most of us also play the game and enjoy doing so. My trading has always been in good faith. Thousands of deals and a profile page to prove the satisfaction of my customers.

Let me point out the truth about RMT for SotA:

The game was founded on RMT, albeit was Port for startup. This was expensive for people to participate in. Some stayed, some didn’t.

People sold their accounts, extra accounts and/or items to help setoff the initial expense to play this game. RMT helped this. People were happy. RMT happy. Happy customers stay. Happy customers spend more money.

With the ebb and flow of the game people come, and people go.

RMT has helped keep POTs in the game instead of them becoming ghost towns. Happy customers helping build the game. Flourishing POTs.

RMT has helped people acquire expired items, and expensive deeds they could not normally acquire.

Customers happy to have items to use in game. Happy customers continuing to play.

I have spent 10’s of thousands on this game that has gone directly back to Port, so the idea that Port does not benefit from RMT is false for many reasons. Other RMT people have also done the same. Responsible RMT has kept this game viable. Bold statement, but factual.

Completely pushing RMT away when RMT has been a big factor in helping this startup survive is nonsense, unrealistic and short sided for many reasons especially this late in the game.

RMT helps keep the servers on. FTP does not. Don’t give FTP accounts Marketpalce forum access.

There needs to be a compromise.

if they close RMT > Game dead 90% Top PvP and PvE players play just for this function. If this happen. All players who use RMT move to another project

As someone who doesn't use the Marketplace forums, except for seeing what some of my items might theoretically be worth occasionally, my opinion probably doesn't matter. However, I don't think having a RMT section on the forums is a bad thing. However, there needs to be a couple controls on it that just are not present, at the moment.

    1. All RMT posts should be "claimable" by a single buyer (confirmed by the seller), and closed once the item is "sold". This still allows bidding, but makes each transaction trackable between the buyer and seller.
    2. Closed RMT posts should still have a poll for the buyer to add a response. Things like "Item Received/Not Received", "Cost (gold or crowns)", "Seller Recommended/Not Recommended". These should be attached to the seller's profile (only viewable in the Marketplace), so potential buyers can see how many transactions and the average ratings. The way things work now, there is just no viable ratings system without a LOT of research, or word-of-mouth only referrals.
    3. There needs to be a viable, in-game, two-way transfer. This could easily be grafted onto the existing Mail system using a "COD", where you can specify the amount of gold or number of crowns required to claim the item, and failure after a given amount of time (or cancellation) returns the item to the sender. There is no good way to transfer items without meeting up in person, which with an international game is not always feasible.
If they want to change their RMT policies to state they are not responsible for money transactions that take place outside of the game, then thats fine. But if we had the tools, this really would be a small portion of all RMT transactions.

Definitely agree in all of this.
We have to consider also that many ppl spent in this game crazy amount of money, they did so just cause they knew that in the future, if they were going to not play anymore, they could sell their assets and get back what they spent. I would never spent more than 10$ in this game if i knew i couldn't take my investment back, not because it is this game but because i am not used to spend real money in games and i can't afford that if i can't get it back.

So RMT with a safe place where to do it, it's just a good way to incentivize ppl to spend their money in SOTA shop.

About scamming, i think it will always happens, the buyer or the seller, has to be realy careful, and follow some simple rules:
-if you are a seller, never give your stuff away without receiving money on Paypal first ( unless you are trading with a realy trusted trader)
-if you are a buyer, check profile messages on the seller account, if he did lot of successful trades, he surely will have lot of positive feedback in his profile and you are safe trading with him/her.

Anyone making the assumption that they would be able to sell their items to get back what they spent made a, no other way to put it, very uninformed error. No such assurance was given that any item held any future value. If you check current prices of things, very few have held anything near the price paid for them.

There is a reason most(actually almost all) mmo companies do not allow RMT within their official structure(forum, discord etc) as both things can go and will go bad at times. Yes it will be the minority of transactions but enough to give a game - any game - a bad reputations and unwanted heat from those who got scammed.

Furthermore it becomes "ammo" in the hands of the trolls that try to badmouth the game everywhere - just a visiting around you will see many saying to players that get interested and ask on it "you should make sure you want to spend time in game with an economy balanced around RMT". To show you just visit that link and check what someone tells to a guy who got interested, citing RMT.

RMT is bad for any mmo - and twice as bad for indie mmos that always got smaller populations and cant afford mistakes like that

Whilst I've only had positive experiences when I have traded with RMTers via the forums I can confirm what you say here. Several people I have tried to get to come play SOTA have refused due to the reputation for RMT that this game has.

I have no real issue with RMT traders...
I have bought a few things off them in my Travels. (& still do)

I will note, that some players are both grossly over-priced in-game & in the RMT Market on the Forums/external sites.
They buy Low & Sell HIGH! Or Farm & sell HIGH....

I would just like to remind players (particularly Newer Players) look around, do some price comparisons & don't just waste your in-game gold or RL money on an impulse buy.
Or sell your hard earned items too Low....

Take your time & do some research...

This is not wrong. It is the norm for most games. The problem here is the ship has sailed on this issue.
Like it or not, this is a RMT game, funded by a majority of top consistent players.

    The question is:
You going to bend to the cry’s of people who cannot make wise judgements?

This hasn’t been an issue for years, but now since FTP started, it is.

This game has persisted in a culture of RMT despite trolls, old and new, bashing it from the beginning.

RMT is not the problem this game has in attracting new players, and retention. There are too many to list, but “we” like the game and stay anyway, AND keep spending our money on it. RMT or no RMT, your trolls will find “something” to keep bashing SotA about.

Alienating your funding is not the answer. Fix what is broken. Let us be adults, and make our own decisions.

PSA - Don’t send Port a Support Ticket for your own dumb decision.

Yes UO has a lot of RMT going as well, but the main issue there, is do we want more players and the game to grow faster in population? If the answer is Yes, then the RMT poses a problem. And yes I totally agree its an issue since FTP era began but definitely not every person who stepped in the game had good intensions. And personally I think its just the newer players that get scammed in general - especially those coming from single player gaming and have little to no mmo trading experience. It also doesnt surprise me they send tickets - because even on EVE which is pretty much allow scamming as a way of gameplay, people still send tickets there too.(then again on EVE you get banned if you RMT even from external sites).

As for the ship having sailed, it is never late to correct a major error

Going back to the crafting specialisation part.
I never had a problem with there being RNG in principle. In fact it makes sense for levelling that levelling increases your RNG chances.

There is just 2 things I want

1). More certainly over max cost even if it involves RNG. EG on the exceptional side, although having RNG, have 5 (made up number) non exceptionals in a row you have a crafting recipe that inputs those 5 and creates a guaranteed exceptional with the same materials. So if you get unlucky you have a max cost to an exceptional. This consumes non exceptional junk and gives traders a more certain price. Do something similar with MW and ENC so getting something specific has a max cost.
2). Ensure gear types are comparable. EG If one gear has 10 Enc options and another has 20, then the number of options to pick from on the 20 should be twice as many as the number on the 10. Meaning the chances of getting what you want are comparable between gear types.

    Regards
    Spung

When we cater to the ignorant, we end up with more ignorance. Like when we deny people the chance to make choices for themselves, we deny them from learning how to make good choices.

I agree to a large extent. Which is why I won't be making the same mistake of becoming deeply financially invested in a piece of entertainment again. Lesson learned.
