i think they should implement a $10 fee for F2P accounts to access the marketplace foruns, it will help to mitigate scammers

A bit shocked about guys who lost money in awfull purchases from no-name accs and run cry to Port. Its only their fault, Port should do nothing about it. The reputation it is really what matters in many fields of our life the faster they will train this lesson the better for them. Greedy people pay twice ;)

By this point they should have an easy response already, which is copy pasted and done.

So far, the only problem I had when selling my stuff on those forums was not due to me but to a bug.

After selling a Replenishing Snowball Box 2016 to someone, the buyer came back and told me how disappointed he was, "while the snowball box was already opened" and does not give any snowballs.

Problem is that I didn't use that box for 1 year at least and it should have replenished itself for long. I suggested him to contact the support because, there may be a bug with replenishing items. In the end, he only got a "we don't know if this one was used or not last year, you'll have to wait for it to replenish" message which didn't take more than 30s to be written. The "scam" was not my fault but it was bug related.

Then all of this sounds like bad excuses to me. It seems clear to me that Portalarium want money because they can't afford developpement costs anymore and thay can't support RMT competition in this context. They probably think that reducing RMT visibility will help with their telethons. Well...

Frankly, banning RMT would have been a good thing for this game from the beginning. Now it's too late. Personaly, I only use it because I'm leaving and selling everything I have. For two years, I never heard anything about any scam except for my exemple up there, ....which is rather another Port's scam like the one with the signed book's deliveries we are still waiting after 6 years.

I see two issues here from Portalarium's point of view:
    1. Scammers drive away players. Fewer players means (potentially) reduced income. If the intent is to eliminate scammers, there are better ways to approach that than making all player trades more difficult. Providing tooltip information on the trader, for example.
    2. An item bought from another player is an item that is not bought on the store, depriving Portalarium of potential income. If players are leaving, that creates a buyers market and income from the store plummets at a time when it is most needed. I suspect this is the real issue.

How about Portalarium make the game worth playing for more people? More people will play, buy, and support development. We have a buyers market since release due to development issues, not due to the players or RMT. The reason for people leaving isn't due to scams by another player in an RMT transaction.

Raising the cost to communicate on the forums or the trade channel to $5 or $10 would be a good idea.

Question, how does the gaming industry completely and successfully stop RMT in other games?

If something is valuable then there will always be an option to make real money. Instead of vilifing RMT find a way to control it so it is "safe".

I am sure we all have ideas but why not focus on other games that made it successful and follow their lead?

    Just wondering @Cristiano Kimberlin ....
Your promotion of Middleton Markets seems Great!
Can I please get a clarification of what is "in it" for you?
It would seem you have paid RL$$'s for the Forum Name for the page?
Are there any costs involved to either the Buyers or Sellers?
If there are genuinely NO costs toward neither the Buyer or the Seller right now, will that change when/if Port decides to dispense with the current "Player Marketplace" Forums on this site?
Could this be clearly elaborated on within this Thread?

    Thank you for the questions!
I have been in this game, as most, from the beginning.
I enjoy playing this game, and the economics of this game.
Without giving RMT (I am including any and all types of trade even if you don't RMT, but want the advertisement.) it's own place, many will lose faith in the game and the game economy. It would have destabilized the economy. We would have lost players. We would be in very dire straights as a community.
I don't want that to happen.
The Evil, Dastardly RMT Baron opened his coin purse, and purchased the Enterprise Level of Bandwidth and Function for this to work. I tell you it troubled my soul to see coins go.
    BUT, here it is!
    FREE TO USE FOREVER!
I MAKE ZERO OFF THIS VENTURE
I get advertising as it is built by me, but so does everyone else.
I have EXPERT representatives from the top in the Trading Community volunteering as Admins to see this work and help.
No bias! Come as you are big, or small.
I will link your RMT site if you have one just as I have done already for others.
I welcome any and all conversations on how to improve in quality and fairness.
I welcome any insight on the best way to identify and eliminate scammers from or community. One initiative is to require all users to have 3 months experience in the game and activity on the forums. No one really needs to buy or sell without knowing the game. You also have to provide your SotA forum name.
    Other than that?
    Enjoy!

    ~Cristiano

@Cristiano Kimberlin ; So have they already banned RMT in the Player Marketplace Forum or is it just something coming soon? Any information on the actual state of affairs pertaining to RMT appreciated. R/Boris/El Pirata

The only multiplayer games that have successfully stopped me from RMT (but also successfully stopped me from playing) are games that simply tracked the trade, and then removed the currency I bought, if this resulted my currency to go in the negative, I was locked out of playing until it was resolved. I have never resolved the situation, and will probably never play those games again.

While Ive bought a few things through the forums, and not had an issue. I must admit, one of the things I thought before was that in the back of my mind I thought I had read that port supported any RMT done through the forum as they could trace what the deal was.. now, I will agree that the forum does currently say "We will not restrict exchange of goods but we will not officially endorse these exchanges due to liability issues and staffing bandwidth." But im not sure it always has..

I'm gonna play the black sheep here.
Imho it's sad and wrong to allow rmt in games.
Adults talking about "investments and assets" in the form of cracked pixels is utterly scary. This is an aleatory system of rules which doesn't give you any control of your benefits. They are not investments or assets.
A game is a game. A job is a job. This is my personal rule and I don't expect anyone agree and share the values behind it. I don't even claim to put bad shape on rmts or such. I totally respect them and I like to play with them, until the RMT mentality doesn't stop or modify the fun and the honest interaction ingame between humans. (Which ofc it does)
I understand people gave Port thousands and thousands and thousands of money, but where is the sane limit line?
Rmt eulas are crazy expensive (at least here in the old continent).
The actual Eula isnt -safe- Portalarium wise so it's understandable why they pushing rmt to other platforms, expecially with this kind of trial and error (fr)agile way of dev products to customers.
