What if we're allowed to place our own lot markers wherever we wanted?

... with the exception of POTs (maybe with a toggle).

Functionally speaking, I don't see why we couldn't go into Solace Bridge and plop one down, wherever was "flat enough". Or just wherever in PRTs. Some zones, or NPC towns may be off limits for story/lore's sake.

    What think?

This was the one thing I disliked about UOs housing system, having adventuring zones filled with players houses, I think the current system is very good with having the possibility to have houses in an NPC town or a player owned town.

Yeah places were spammed and crammed with houses.
I will pass on this one.

I agree I didn't like how UO housing ended. That said I would be open to entertain that idea as long as each zone had a very very small limit of 1-5 houses only that way it would not clutter.

Perhaps a smaller scale of say a small tent and campfire could be place anywhere. (whats the worst that could happen? lol)

I wouldn't mind if this was a feature, but the immediate problem I see is you'd get a handful of people grabbing them all up and trying to sell the "premium locations" to everyone else.
There are a lot of 'dead spaces' in a lot of scenes that would be suitable for a smaller house or two, but the problems, including 'first come first serve', people whose stuff never expires even if they dont log on, potential for visual pollution, LAG, etc. Prolly not feasible, which is a shame.

I wouldn't want to see this in NPC towns or adventure zones (though there are some fabulous places I'd love to put in a hunting lodge). But I would LOVE to see this in PRTs, which currently are not remotely player-run except in name. Give each town a handful of lots that are "locked in place", like the row lots in my Axwich. Then let the rest of the lots go so we can place them as the town actually organically develops. Then they really would be player-run towns.

I wouldn't mind seeing this in a PVP zone to test and flesh it out. I bet PVPers would love it!.
