I was thinking with the ability to steal that if you are unable to pay the fine, why not cart people off to a prison?
We have row jails etc. could make mini game out of it. add lockpicks? and with future locks for chest a key system. Make some chests able to be flagged picklock able. so that its intended to allow a none key person to gain access. Same for doors. for future dungeons and Player made quests.

This could also open up the ability for you to flag lot items as steal, so that you can plan for people to take things.

I like that in some areas of the game you can pick up things and get flagged in the PVE world. but somethings you can't even though they are common things. you could use that system like loot where if an object is taken just like loot it will spawn again at some time. can be common things for PVE that you get from drops.

for players it allows us to offer interesting loot at a cost of getting caught.

getting caught could be that any npc that has line of site on you. patrol pets if they face you in a room before you get into the chest that is flagged to allow you end up with more fun mini games in the game as well new ways to distribute lute.

Actual keys to all of these can also be items that could be part of NPC quests or items you buy from shops with labels like key to .... chest, door etc..

    Thoughts?

The key question is: Why would it be fun after the 100th time of being thrown in jail?

Then: If its fun, why don't criminals role play that now? Caught stealing? Just teleport to a dungeon and sit there for 20 minutes, in the same room each time.

Hmm.. Sounds like an awful lot of system design work for a relatively small gameplay feature.

It sounds cool but for me it's a late game feature, when tbe Devs are running out of core ideas but have coding resources available and are just polishing the existing product.

It could be a quest to escape jail, so that it is fun. No point in just having a jail cell to sit in. You could have to steal a key off a guard, sneak around through the different hallways finding the way out etc. And if you didn't feel like escaping there could a way to bribe the guards to let you out.

There could be a leaderboard for fastest escape, most escapes, most bribes paid etc. Seems like a cool feature that could be added sometime in the future.

indeed, there could be quests, and or other things, perhaps have an escape tunnel that leads into a catacomb which you have to escape. could be mobs etc.

Considering many of those "features" are already needed for dungeon exploration, player owned dungeon builds, etc. - I think the major components already have multiple potential uses - so the time spent on one area overlaps and shows a much larger benefit.
