Confusion is one of the most un-fun mechanics in this game...

...and fighting Envy Angel has reminded me just how much. If smelling salts gave me protection from confusion for some amount of time then it wouldn't be so bad but, as it is, I use a smelling salts and the very next hit confuses me again. Just not fun.

You should always get a temporary buff after clearing things like that, poisons after using a cure poison potion, etc.

Also, confusion proper could probably us a fun pass anyway. Just a little TLC to make it a more Miyamoto level experience.

Perhaps you could zombie walk while confused, it would help to tie the experience to the game instead of just your controller (keyboard).

It's unlikely, but also possible that we're supposed to get some immunity after clearing it, and it would come as a complete surprise to Chris that it just hasn't been working for four years.

Regardless, I agree with the OP a thousand times over. I would graciously accept another round of archer nerfs if they came with the elimination of confusion. I would return to regular weekly play if confusion were removed.

This is why I usually don’t bother with sieges after clearing the catapults - the confusion keyboard remapping is just too frustrating and annoying to deal with.

I hate confusion so much, I can't begin to describe how much. I avoid swamps completely now because of the stupid gases that cause confusion. I used to like swamps, so the addition of these gases has downgraded my enjoyment of the game substantially.

Difficult is one thing. Obnoxiousness is another.

I agree. The confusion mechanic is the most frustrating experience and is unfun. It would be better if confusion had an effect that both temporarily reduced movement speed and increased the skill cooldown rate, which would better align with the concept of being confused than the remapping of movement keys. There should also be a reasonable cooldown for MOBs using confusion effects (15-30 sec?). Additionally, smelling salts should provide immunity from further confusion effects for a while (1 min?)

    Does purify nullify confusion?

I heard someone tell me that they mentioned making Smelling Salts give u a temporary confusion immunity when used. Im all for that \o/

And purify does remove confusions, but i dont think the re-application ability for life specialists works unless they fixed it at some point.

    Purify also removes Cabalist Curses

    Use the work-around.
Bind turning to a keyboard button, hold down right mouse, hit turn left, you strafe left. This bypasses confusion but limits you to strafing only.

I wouldn't. But that's because my playstyle has only been nerfed progressively since 2017.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. Does it also work with turn right?

[edit] This is great! It doesn't eliminate it but it makes it easier to deal with. Thanks again for the tip @venospro.

That sounds exploit-ish. As unfun as confusion is, its intention is clear, and shouldn't be bypassable by keyboard configurations. A correct solution would be that purify and/or smelling salts have a temporary buff effect.

I'm not against confusion, but i do think it is an over used mechanic.
It has become a bit of a one trick pony.

Confusion can be dealt with, but I think Nefas and his remapping your keys every few seconds is crazy. So by the time you work out your new key bindings they have changed again. This takes away all skill and makes it more luck based.

BTW I hear blink is a good counter, I personally just pick a direction and as long as it is not forward, in which case i pick another, I just correct it to the direction I want to go by steering with the mouse. It does mean you don't always have line of sight to hit, but at least you are staying away and not being hit.

    Regards

Note that i did not say "frequent play." As of now, I intend to come back once most of the episode 2 systems are in place and see what things are like, barring any significant changes that lure me back.

Using a turn key isn't an exploit. It may be a bug though.
