Air magic, Int buff or Dex buff?

    Air magic seems to get bonuses for higher dexterity and intelligence. Which is better and how do they compare?

    Int will increase your damage, dex will increase some effects and if speccedd in air the damage on chain lighting. Its good to have a nice balance.

    The Discharge, Lightning and Chain Lightning spells all claim damage is increased with dexterity. I suspect the increase is more with intelligence, but I am not sure.

    If you are an air specialist, dex gives you a little bit more damage per point vs. int at high level, but it's close. Int is still usually better though because it also gives you more focus, which is important for air shield, as well as boosting any other magic that you use.

    Dex is still good enough that it gives you a lot more gear and buff options though. For example, I use dex foods, which are super cheap and easy to get, as well as the +30 dex -10 str blessing. There are also some artifacts with a lot of dex that aren't bad, and leather pieces are more viable with dex mw than they would be for some other magic.

    edit: You get a lot more out of enchantments when playing air also, since you have two different stats that both help you a lot.

    Back when I played Air mage, I tried both. With Sun spec I loved the crit, with int your high end damage goes up higher. With Dex your base lower dmg goes up a lot more you also get a much higher chance not to get hit with the dex. Focus is one issue. if you level up your base and rely on high int gear going dex works out rather nice. It also allows you to have a ranged deck as backup, or a blade deck with no issues doing either with the high ability to not get hit. Int does give you some pretty big numbers though and with crit you can pretty much destroy lots.

    with air its not always about burst but more about control. Did you know that you can chain stun groups with little risk if you slow down the pace. a 7 stack chain stuns the same length of time to restack a 7 stack. which allows you to hold a group of mobs until they are all dead. Or you can always burst in between with Discharge using the bonus from the chest to do faster damage with a little less control. For melee decks get high dodge mod's and you can take dragons pretty easy well using cover when they take to the air.

    Dex is best in my view. It helps air shield and stun chance, which is how air mages get power. At least that is true for me and I have been an air mage for ages. And I love it. Dex over int for me. My dex with buffs and gear is double my int and it works well for me.
