As an inn owner, it would be nice to have some sort of mechanism to allow me to place a "lock" on the door of a room and set a price (daily/weekly/monthly). A prospective tenant looks at the room and decides to rent it. They click the lock and pay the fee (can even pay in advance, like the lot tax system), and they become a Tenant to that room (like the already existing system). They can opt to terminate the lease, and the room becomes freed up for the next tenant. The room is also freed up (their items sent to their bank and they lose Tenant permissions) if they fail to pay the rent on the room in time.

I'm curious, how many rooms do you regularly rent?

I'm wondering if Inn rental has become a 'stranded' feature in the game. Inn rentals were novel during the land rush when prices were high and there was a need to give new players access to the housing game more affordably. But today, with deeds easy to get / upgrade, so many lots available in Novia, and the world only getting larger, are Inn owners still able to rent rooms?

Encouraging players to rent a room or sleep in their own bed - by offering a buff for doing so - would be fun. I often disrobe and get into bed .... and.. when I login the next day, fully rested and such - it would be cool to have at least a 2 hour food buff or equivalent

I want various buffs for being in the home, an inn, a tavern, any place one can "rest", hear music, chat with avatars/NPCs, eat food, etc. Also for wearing relaxing clothes (like a nightrobe!) and for logging out in bed.

I usually log out while sitting in my sexy town kimono and cool pirate bandana and /smoke emote

I guess at least for RP this could be an option but since free deeds for completing story quests and global banks are in the game I thought too that renting to “strangers” does not happen anymore....so I’m curious too.

Adding to this comment, though this should be its own separate message (server error won't allow me to post new message).

In regards to the Crafting Recipe Book:
    1) Sort the recipes alphabetically, or ....
    2) Add the ability to search for a recipe.

The Recipe book is near unusable as it is now. If I need to find a recipe, it's just easier to go to a craft station and search there, than it is to open the book, move to the section the recipe is in, then scroll through page after page after page looking for the recipe you're looking for.

Hopefully Port/Catnip will consider making Taverns great. Bought several and was hoping there would be a purpose. The 2 hour food buff sounds great. It would also be cool if card or dice games were added. I'd love to turn the main floor room into a casino :D

The prevailing problem I think we have is that there is so much availability - and because new players can get their "own" properties now with a fairly minimal time investment to do the quest, tenants don't tend to stay long. Adding a mechanism for them to "pay" rent, when almost everyone I know lets new players have an inn room absolutely free, doesn't seem to be to be a good use of dev resource.

That being said, it would be nice to see the social/rp/tavern elements further developed, giving an Inn a purpose beyond simple "throw a box in here with your crap". Serving as the base/catalyst for a rested xp system or special buff, or even allowing some sort of 'tavern management minigame' crossover with brewing would be kinda cool, instead of just brewing stuff for a) roleplay or b) npc vendoring in bulk.

It's time for the interactivity to start appearing in game. We have the canvas and have painted the pictures, but we can't yet make them react.

I was thinking, while this is the case, there is something to say about people getting together at the local pub to socialize IRL. Going out for a drink or something.

It would be nice for these buildings to have a purpose since anyone can get a free deed and house.

Something to consider. At the very least, people could have additional storage space if needed :)

And I'm still pushing for a casino. It would be fun to have some kind of mini games where players can interact with one another.

In game perhaps? I'd love some small xp reward (very small) for just interacting and chatting with other locals. I have an inn that offers free rooms (Rift's End), but haven't advertised, and I'm not in the game every day. Roleplaying in the bar with folk to gain tenancy in my building would be cool, and should earn xp!

And yes to the room rental system, as I have rooms I'd love to offer other Avatars, but I'm not always in the game everyday. Just allow setting rent to $0.

    Ask Sonja Solar about this.

She had an inn set up in Brittany Fort, and a whole guild was renting out rooms from her and taking up space in her inn as they were starting out in the game and earning gold. It was a lot of fun for everyone. Then there was housing changes, and it suddenly became pointless, and the fun of that particular feature went away. It was something people enjoyed. Generally speaking, a lot of people found fun in the immersive gameplay.

Don't get me wrong, I was one of the people who thought the game needed to be adjusted in some ways. On the housing portion of the game, I thought taxes were too high and needed to be adjusted. I think deed upgrades are cool.

But at the same time, I think instead of adjusting everything in a balanced way, too much attention was given to the priorities of complainers, and it made the game a lot more boring as a result.

Kinda hard when there are no real goals for guilds and everyone can GM everything.

Also, there is zero market for Inn rooms given the low population and availability of Row houses for completing starter quests.

Well what if 'renting an inn room' had other benefits, i.e.

Think about why you'd stay/live in a pub or tavern irl - you'd get meals included, there's entertainment on site, there's social elements, public rooms, often entertainment such as pool tables, darts, etc. Lots of minigame potential stuff that could be added and residents could get a discount on it all. Tenants rental package could also include 'bed and breakfast' - at the moment, you can do this by having the owner manually deliver items in accessible boxes but its clunky and awkward with the permissions as they are. Be cool if this could be delivered to your rewards or something. Other things like maid service have also been done through roleplay but there's really no in-game 'tech' for these sorts of features.

I'd totally pay rent to live in a tavern if I got a discount on the 'kobold pinball machine' minigame or whatever, or if I got a daily meal delivered, etc. While I'd love to see inns and taverns further developed, since its not combat-related I don't see a lot of dev resource being dedicated to it, that just seems to be the trend lately.

If it were possible to drown - I swam across the Solstace River overencumbered by 150 pound and did not even lose some focus (like when jogging).
