if the Governor /Steward Does not log in for 24 months the town is removed from game... it's like lots in the game that expired! But the game also needs to send player lots to the Property Manager....

Player Owned Town will still be on the game account just no longer be place in game =)

The problem with that is there may be active players with properties inside that POT. Would it be fair to them if their homes were just chucked into the bank one day?

irrelevant. the player may have specifically chosen an empty and inactive town. some do for personal preference or role-playing reasons, some do for performance on low-end computers. you don't get to rip their home away from them, property manager or not.

Perhaps some sort of internal alert to the team that a property has been inactive for 24 months.
An automated email and in-game message is sent to the owner to notify them that their property is about to expire. Give them a week to a month to respond.

If there is no response, then an automated response is sent to all residents to notify them that the town will be removed due to owner inactivity and that they have 30 days to vacate to another town for free, with a warning that if they don’t vacate within that 30 days then their lot is sent to the property manager.

Maybe have a short cool down period on the lot once empty to stop exploiting/lot camping.

    Automated notification is good.
People choose lots in POTs at their own peril, and are subject to the whim of the owner. Sale of the POT, Change of Biome, Change of POT location or reorganization is all part of it.
Too many unused POTs lingering. This could free up space for a more active community in a given location.
Same could be said for unused home and lots in NPC Towns, but that is another discussion.

I think its important to be sensitive to players that may be unaware of the governance of their towns. I also see a lot of value in "living in middle of no where," for asthetics, or for RP.

I think CICI's solution to ship the home/basement to magic mover is a good solution for that. Esp since we have virtually zero chance of running out of places to live in the world right now.

Most PRTs are virtually empty, and dont have this problem of needing an active player governor. Many NPC-story towns have many lots that are far from town centers or other players. I realize this is not an optimal replacement, but I think someone living in a POT that has zero other players and is not the governor - specifically for those reasons - is an edge case.

I feel its healthier for SOTA long term to "clean up" the OW map and consolidate housing to active scenes.

How about the devs fix what has been on the back burner for 5 years, so maybe those people who dropped a huge chunk of money, will come back?

Rather than trying to push them out for good?

Maybe the problem is that since 2018 (two years ago) we're still waiting for the quest system and journal system to finally get fixed, and they aren't coming back until it is done?

Maybe they are waiting for that promised polish to 100%?

Rather than making ANOTHER system on top of the already shaky house of cards?

Maybe it's not your town so mind your own business?

Here's the picture that comes to mind now. The game/communty/devs desperately hacking off pieces of the game, and embedding half finished Rube Goldberg cybernetic parts in the stumps.

It's time to get back to basics, not hack off another limb.

I don't agree those towns should disappear. Players paid real money for those. It is not up to us to say how it goes. Just live with it. In the town description it should say the status of the town like no vendors. If players don't check that then it is on them if they visit an empty town.

I just recently met a couple of people who had been away for more than two years. They even brought people with back with them to try the game.

HA does anyone remember the days of camping houses about to expire in uo, when it would pop like a pinata and everyone would madly scramble to loot all the free stuff that was inside ^_^

    Greetings all
So I came up with a so-so answer for inactive Player Owned Towns. Using the same logic as a when the times on a lot is reset by anyone on the account logging in or the times on a POT is reset when ever the Governor or Steward logs in to the town. If there are active residents in the town instead of kicking them due to a crappy Governor have any active resident reset the timer when ever he enters or leaves the town. Maybe a PM goes to the DEVs to let them know that the Governor is missing but don't kick the unaware residents for it.

OH you can also change the towns Message of the Day to let people know of any possible changes.
