in addition to being able to default them on or off, i'd like an option to default them to day/night: automatically turn on sometime between xx:49 and xx:51 and turn off between xx:08 and xx:10. bonus points if each light is somewhere within the time range, so they're not all changing state at once but looks organic, like someone actually walking around changing them.

extra bonus points if one of the npc servants can go around toggling them, but that seems harder.

how about turn lights on on ground floor at one time, then upper floors on a delayed timer. then reverse for turning them off in the morning.

I don't mind turning the indoor ones on and off myself, but definitely for porch lights and garden lamps, it would be wonderful to have them either on a timer or "photo-sensitive" so that the change also triggered on stormy overcast days. Even just having a "lamplighter" NPC whose job was to wander around the whole town turning every outdoor light he could reach off or on as appropriate. :)
