    From Chris’ Twitter:

Working on heavy armor and tanking skills as we move towards a more meaningful end game. First up, Provoking Shout. Heavy Armor buff skill, add SkillLevel/80 % to aggro generation for 60*(1+HeavyArmorSpec) seconds. Aggro generation bonus is for all sources including from damage.

So Heavy Armor Spec at 80, Provoking Shout at 80 would add 100% to aggro generation for 120 seconds. At 120/120 it would generate 150% extra aggro for 150 seconds. First step towards helping people who want to tank hold aggro when the mages nuke hard.

    Hi @Anpu,

my math says that with a "Provoking-shout"-skill level at 80, it should be 80/80 % generation for 60*(1+80) seconds, with heavy-spec at 80. So 1% aggro for 81 minutes. Please tell me this is wrong and explain where the 100% aggro for 120 second came from. :)

    Cheers,
    Silberfarn

I’m not a developer. You would have to ask Chris.

I think it is common for the devs to normalize skills to level 80, so where Atos mentioned HeavyArmorSpec in his equation he really meant HeavyArmorSpec/80. (what he actually programmed in we won't know til its patched in)

Personally I'm not sure we need to have a second taunt skill instead of just making the existing one work better, but maybe the real tank / heavy armor spec players will like it.

I think it is in some way to give people into Heavy Armor Spec a benefit. If you want to get the best tanking possible, you will need the spec. So you can still tank a little bit, but if you are in a party with high hitting fire/moon mages or some of the archers, you would require Spec to keep the agro off everyone.

In programming terms percentages are usually expressed as a number between 0 and 1 (with 1 being 100%, 0.5 = 50% etc) so I would go with Anpu's interpretation

I need tank as a healer! it is crazy how aggressive the undead can get when I keep rezzing and healing everyone left and right.

100% agree (no percent pun intended). I would have expected the Taunt skill to be reviewed and fixed first since it is already in there and has issues (in that it appears to barely work). I was very surprised to find a new skill being talked about. Still the more ability to get aggro the better and in combination with updates to resist tanking is definitely on the upswing. It is very exciting to get some love for the tanks. Thank you @Chris.

    I disagree...
A tank (a true tank) takes the aggro - a tank needs a healer to keep him/her alive. The two are inseparable.
The 3rd element is dps and that's up to the rest of the group.

I never said the tank does not need healer, I was just pointing out that healing gets you aggro just as easily as casting fire spells. I do 0 damage and yet the undead in EG attack me so much when the tank leaves.

I dont understand the tank problematic.
We are running all times a 8 up to 12 people level 100 to 130+ group in different scenes; we have high level fire mages and high level archer. AND NOWONE ever can get the aggro from the tank right since month now.

    So I dont unterstand that the tanks need a better tankability;
my guess is, that most player cant play a tank, because they see in a tank not a real tank, more then a DmgDealer with a tank-skill; and that does not work

Just my two cents, but I think the game need other thinks more then make a tank more powerfull that he ist right now

Healing has always drawn aggro, since day 1 -
When your tank leaves and you're still healing, then you get his aggro .

Yes, and that is why it helps if tank can keep the aggro:)

You may not think a tank might be happy "as is", but maybe you should ask your tank what he thinks about the coming changes... ;)

Hi Net, I read this post again and I think FrostII misunderstood your post as "A tank needs to be a healer as well". That's why he disagreed and said they should be separate.

Yes, your actual point is "I am a healer, so I really need tanks"

Hi Paladin! So . . . do you tank and heal? :D

Anyway back to topic, sorry for the sidetrack . . .

To make it even more immersive, can the Provoking Shout actually say something randomly offensive in Runic? Something along the lines of "You make a troll lord look gorgeous!". Perhaps cycling between 10 - 15 phrases, all contributed by the community, of course.

I'm specialised in Heavy Armor, so I'm happy that they are buffing the tree with more aggro generation. Complete that with a Belt of the Troll Lord and Envy Bow and you're every mob's favourite target. Speaking of the Envy Bow . . . can there be Tanky weapons like a Thunderous 2-handed Mallet or Serrated Broadsword that will give Aggro Boost as well? Somehow I don't see tanks using a bow as their main weapon, maybe as the starting firing shot before switching over to their main melee.
