Ashen heartwood, where?

Good afternoon.
Ever since the new "framed map of ..." recipes came out, I have been trying to get ash heartwood.
Apparently it can only be obtained from reapers.
I have visited all the areas where, according to sotawiki, reapers appear (except in mysterious swamp).
In most areas I have not managed to find any reapers, and the few reapers that I have found, only three of them have given me 1 ash heartwood.
How hard is it to get ash heartwood?

 

It does drop from reapers. I have killed literally thousands of the things in pursuit of Wyvern heads, and have never found a head. The fastest rotation of reapers is in ulfheim (sp?). There is a rotation of Wyverns and reapers in the scene. I have found this is the best place to farm the reapers. So far I only have harvested a couple hundred heartwoods as they are not a common drop. So good luck. Not much is offered on vendors. Watch your mail, I will send you a few. There are 3 that spawn in Greymark Forest in Hidden Vale. As well as multiple ones in Mysterious Swamp. Also there are about 3 that spawn in Savenroc Stronghold as well. Then the Ruins of Utheim in Mist4render still has 3 that spawn there. If you go in the default by the bard trainer there are three that spawn repeatedly along that side of the map. The Ashen heartwood is or was considered a rare drop alot like the cowbell. There are 3 rare drops from reapers, ash heartwood, cowbell and recipe for a medevil shirt.

 

Question: What drops the recipes for the framed maps ??

 

Actually, the fastest rotation of Reapers I have found is in Mysterious swamp. There are 6 or so spawns super grouped up together, and as long as you avoid the slimes (if you struggle with them), you can kill them very fast and consistently.

As for OP, Ashen heartwood is relatively rare, seems to have something like under 25% drop rate, so you will need to kill a bunch, be prepared!

I don't know how strong you are, but if Ulfheim and mysterious swamp scares you, Savrenoc Stronghold is another good scene to kill them, only 3 spawns and far(ish) apart (like Ulfheim actually), but it is a T5 zone instead of a T10, so it is a nice place to kill them.

I got a map in Ulfheim off of a barbarian, for an unrelated scene, so probably drops from the same thing as bundles and artifacts, which means everything and nothing?

 

I have gotten 11 map recipes so far. I can't recall which maps specifically drop from which creatures, but I know I got map drops multiple times from:
Dragons
Kabolds in Krul
Daemons
Fawns

I'll pay close attention and can try to post more details in the future

 

It took me like a month of farming wyverns to get a head.

 

i got Ardoris map off a faun in one of the ravenswood areas. Then just this week i got South Valeway off an imp in Blackblade foothills. So its gonna be rough figuring out that part. Hope they do more maps than the 26 they listed. Although i dont know if i have enough wall space for that much. LOL

 

I suspect that map drops are all over the place. I have gotten them from Ravensmoor and Spectral Peaks. The others I can't remember where they were from.

 

I've got a lot of map recipes from the elves and undead in Crag foothills.

I've spent a few hours in Greymark Forest but only could locate 1 reaper. I guess I have to go back again and hope I'll have more luck!

I got a "Framed Map of Veiled Swamp" recipe from a Chest Mimic in the South Midmaer Way buff room.

 

Been making the framed maps in Crafters Town for a week and selling at 4975, now at 5975. But someone who I will not mention by name has been buying them all up and selling for 49k to 99k per map!
So only now making a few at a time and placing on my vendor there.

 

You can't get any xps buying stuff.

 

the ones I have are displayed there, think 16. Send me a recipe of one that I don't have and I will send you a crafted one back!

 

also sell recipes for 750 gold, same story, only a few at a time because of one person buying all

 

Most reaper spawns are a little weird. They have multiple spawn points, but can there can only be so many up at a time. Better to just teleport around than to wait for them to respawn.

 

Ulfhiem 3 spots where they spawn, those spots alternate between wyverns and Reapers.

 

There's also a reaper spawn in North Midmaer Way, near the west entrance.
