The green hue looks very bad, and some scenes pretty much require Night Vision, such as Tartarus and The Rise.

I would suggest 2 courses of action for this skill:

    1) make it "less green" with level progression;

    OR

    2) ditch the green tint and make it just less saturated than regular vision (more black&white feeling), but with slightly more contrast.

What scenes require night vision? I've never used Tartarus

I just want to say, I don't feel any issues with night vision.

I use Night Vision all the time. Agree it should be improved to become more colorful !

I am using Night Vision 95% of my play time day and night (only off in POTs sometimes if too lazy to cast).
Main reason is to get rid of annoying brightful animations to concentrate on combat only.
I would welcome a less greenish version, but would like to avoid a too colorful version.

I agree, I think it should feel like a less colorful version of the world. A bit more washed out. But not green.

If they made Night Vision better then they would have to do something for Light in order to make it worthwhile. Otherwise, nobody would use it. Maybe have a -aggro buff against undead while Light is active?

Right now, light has two gameplay downsides: very short range and being unable to hide.
Night vision has the downside of making the game bland and ugly (one developer once called it ugly mode).
If light range was "infinite" like night vision I would use light instead. Maybe making the "minimum light" in the scene be increased so the light user won't get full black shadows in scenes like Spindleskog, Tartarus and The Rise.

So, I think I'm asking for any of these skills to be usable and not be uglier than the regular game.

Or maybe adding some benefit for those who level these skills other than time and attunement. Maybe -x% green tint / lvl for night vision and +x% range for light.

It also makes it hard to see some resource nodes.

Personally, I no longer use night vision at all anymore. Since I’m now fairly familiar with many scenes just the light spell is enough for me.

I believe the reason that night vision is really ugly looking is because when you do have it active, it will also mask out the harvesting glow on resources. Making them more difficult to see, which I assume is the intended purpose of that as well.

That said, I do wish something making the actual light spell emit better lighting or something has been sorely needed. It’s just not enough light. It probably could go up in intensity every 10 levels or something.

Definitely UGLY ... hahaha, that's one of the reasons I don't use this much even it's quite a powerful skill.

I did a google search on "night vision in videogames". What we have seems par for the course. I thought the nightvision in Metro: Last Light looked best.

Looks like @Chris is making it less ugly next release.
I hope we can see some colors, even if with low saturation.
Or even better: the well lit portions of the screen can keep their natural colors, and gray-ish palette affects only darker areas.

Okay, enough wishes, thanks for looking into it!

Totally agree with @Coswald_Dirthmire here, they're on the right track.

The well lit areas seem to maintain their natural colors, which is a great touch!

There IS a use for nightvision, in The Rise, there is a room with invisible/glass walls that cannot be seen with normal sight. Using nightvision shows these walls making the glass/invisible wall maze easier to navigate. Not sure if that was intended, but is a nice advantage to keeping it the way it is.
There are also some scenes that have no lighting when it gets dark. Usually these are outdoor scenes and caves. Using nightvision helps see what is going on and what you are doing. All it takes is getting used to identifying everything which is not hard to do.
