Hi all, trying to publish a book on this topic.

For heavy, what gear and glyphs do you need to focus on?

    Are shields very useful?

For light armour, I suppose you will need to have high dodge. Anything else?

    Thanks in advance.

Being in light armor, use dodge with decent dex and fast movment/attack speed to take them out as quickly as possible. Get right on top of them so they spend time trying to back off

Edit: and if im using a bow myself, i hide behind trees for cover

Plate armor and halberd here. I skewer them to keep them from running, then pound away. I take out the archers first, unless mages are hitting for more damage. In which case I take out the mages first. When I was plate and bludgeon, I knocked them down and pounded away. So, knock back, was it?

What do you do to reduce their damage? When handling more than 3 archers, I am taking way too much damage to keep them from running. (I am the one running away instead) :p

Forward face archers, and have a shield and the Deflect skill activated as well as having the shield innates Angles and Redirection trained.

I add damage resistance and avoidance to my armor when crafting. I also use heal potions and regenerative food. Focus, too. I used to cast heal on myself when I was lower level. As Anpu alluded, don't let them, or any other mob, hit you from behind.

I cast Shield of Crystal, Glancing Blows, and Absorb Impacts on myself. Also have Heavy Armor innate Deflection skill GM'd.

I have gotten dependent on my pig grabbing the aggro while I run around with immolation and an ignited 2 hand polearm. Seems to work OK in anything up to a T10 zone.

This is key right here. If you run right up to them then they'll try to run away from you. Not only are they not attacking you while they're running away but you also get back shots for extra damage.

Also, if you're engaged with something else and can't take care of the archer first then look for cover.

You can also use Berserker's Stance to remove the effects from Disabling Shot.

    Here are my tactics:
    • Use as much dodge as possible. That includes blessings of Sacrifice and Elusiveness.
    • Use Shield of Air.
    • Have as much Dex as possible to boost Shield of Air including Blessing of Agility, Greater.
    • Use focus potions (all three on my utility bar).
    • Use Rhapsody of Recovery and a Harp of Invigoration.
    • If things go south then use passive stance.

Kinda weird now, given Chris wants to also lower the damage done when mobs are running away from you.

Well, only for Aimed Shot, but still.

After listening to his livestream, the damage reduction will come when mobs are moving perpendicular to you. So if they're moving toward or away from you then it will have no effect. That critical damage reduction is also only for Aimed Shot. So, if you're circling an archer and about to release your Aimed Shot, stop first.

Thanks all for the input. What about the skills from the tactics and shields? Are they useful?

    e.g
    Defensive Stance
    Fortify Defense
Parry (do they work against ranged?)
    Deflect

Problem I face when using shields is it takes longer to kill.

    Is Torpor any good?

Isn't this at the expense of damage resistance?

What's a good number for dex? I tend to put numbers into strength at expense of dex and int.

Sara used to say always DA. Has it changed since?

The benefits of Berserker's Stance greatly outweigh the negatives, especially since light armor has such little DR anyway.

As much as you can get. More dex means that enemies crit less often and you crit more. More dex also increases the benefit you get from air spells and light armor skils.

If you're going for a heavy armor build then strength and earth spells will probably be more beneficial.

Avoidance is beats resistance. I take what I can get.

Damage resistance is really good these days if you stack it high. Avoidance blocks 2/3 damage of any hit when it procs, but folks stacking damage resist are blocking like 80% damage for hits up to like 500 damage 100% of the time. Probably more if they are heavy armor specialized.

Block chance provided by shields only works from the front but it works against some magic attacks too, and is extremely effective for tanking, makes you generate more aggro, gives u anothe gap closing stun that doesnt risk your durability, and has some shield bash combos with fire and earth magic that just got some love if you wanna tank-mage
