Our guild was trying to think of events to draw folks in, and we were fondly remembering the chicken fights from the Original UO. I am not sure we can do these here for a few reasons, but I wanted to be sure I got my facts right before I head off to wishlist the work.
    1. Currently, we cannot ask chickens to fight each other as low-level pets are set to not be able to fight at all.
    2. If we did get them to fight, the taming skills would skew the fights making it unfair/unenjoyable for non-tamers or non-specced tamers.
^^^ Are both of those statement true? ^^^

    Thanks

Don't know about 1, but 2. is true. From my tests, the "Taming Mastery" stat you get from taming spec is how much stronger your pet is than a non-specced pet, so with all the same innates as someone else, if you have taming spec at 80, your pet is 100% stronger than the same exact pet in someone elses hands, so that would for sure keep some people out of the fights

All pets in SOTA are the same with no differing stats like in UO. Violet is correct that taming spec and the other taming innates would make one pet stronger over another pet.

Nice idea though. I pretty much only play solo, but I could be tempted to go multi for a bit of Barnyard Madness.

Now I want to add that I think even though people without taming spec don't stand much chance, I feel like this could be a very nice thing to host nonetheless! Could have different categories depending on the summoning skill of the pet, and may the best win, just pet vs pet, set some base rules and see what comes out from there.

It's not like PvP/Fishing or any other type of competition doesn't favor some over others, so why wouldn't a "Pet v Pet" competition not allow Tamers to reign Supreme thanks to their investment in their trade?

    Just my opinion though

Thinking on it, you only really need two players who have zero skill invested in taming who can take necklaces from participants, summon the pets and set them fighting each other.

Well, might want more than two so that you're not waiting 15 minutes for the cooldown between every fight, but it's a potential workaround.

Our guild considered this dilemma also and came up with a different solution. For our Casino Night we provided two similarly skilled tamers with a good selection of pets. Then, we would announce a fight between these two players with each selecting a pet. Sometimes the same type of pet sometimes different. Then, the audience could make a wager on which pet would win. This was a way to give everyone in the room an opportunity for some fun and maybe some prizes too!

We used paper chips worth 1000 gold each if I remember correctly. The limit was three chips per bet. But of course you might want to change that part of the rule for your gathering as you wish.

Be sure to choose the pets wisely so it will not be obvious who the winner will be and you can have a lot of fun seeing who wins!

It is a good idea to coach the tamers participating in the fight to use similar tactics. For example we didn't allow heal pet, since that could extend the fight indefinitely.

We also found that using Defensive stance and pressing the attack button worked best when trying to get the pets to engage. We didn't want the tamers using any attack spells themselves, of course.

Hope you can find a way to have some fun with your pet battles!

Sounds like a lot of fun. Did you allow buffs like Frenzy?

We didn't consider that since it was not invented yet. I would suggest that it would be your choice and the results might be interesting to check out! I definitely recommend that you refrain from using pvp attacks. You will be in a dual of course so it might be tempting.
