Daily turn in for Survey Ticket. Or drops from mushrooms.

High level slimes drop them as well, and at a much better rate than mushrooms. You'll get an occasional uncommon, too. I farmed metal slimes in the Tartarus caves to make my epic. It took a while, but it wasn't actually too bad, for once. (Really wish they hadn't nerfed it right after I did that.) They also drop a number of other jewelry artifacts, like Cuttlekin rings and Necklace of Civility. You'll end up with a lot of those too.

They drop more valuable stuff too iirc, like the Brittle Brawn.
These slimes are a pain to fight if you're not tough enough, back in the day my strat was Shield of Air + gust to make them less deadly. They could 3-hit me in no time without SoA.

Did a few encounters but no luck with the survey NPC. Went to Blood River Outskirts and that was a complete waste of time. Went to Mysterious Swamp for some shroom killin' and netted 4 common frogkin rings in about an hour. Next I'll try the slimes; hopefully the drop rate is better than the giant shrooms.

Just per the release notes (shown on the wiki for the Ring of the Frogkin page): Common Ring of Frogkin added to loot tables for all tiers of fungus creatures with increased drop rates on higher tiers. Green ones have a slightly elevated chance. The high tier ones in PvP zones have the best chance. -Release 88

So, how do I find these death metal slimes and what's the point of the clockwork cat room?

Sort of. Higher rate of dropping artifacts, but the arti loot pool is more dilute. Don't bother with the second level in Tartarus, there aren't many there. Plus the wisps will mez you while you're fighting them. Third level caves have six or seven places they spawn, so you can usually run around without a lot of down time. And if you are waiting for spawns, there's T6 ore nodes to hit. Or run over to the maze for a minute or two and try for some bandit gear.
5 stack of Disabling Shot, then kite. They hit hard if they catch you, but it should be rare you get caught, if you're careful enough and don't try engaging more than one at a time, which isn't hard to do there.

Easiest method is to enter from the Savrenoc scene, that puts you right where you need to be. Otherwise, I think go to second level and run through the big room with pirate skelly to the teleporter.

Also, when you enter from savrenoc, ignore the first slime you encounter, by the elves. It splits into smaller green slimes, and they drop crap loot.

Also, I should note that I haven't played in around a year, things may have changed. But the above was how I farmed them back then. Which is probably why they got nerfed a month later, that seems to be my lot in SotA.

Yes, if it's good or fun then make it not so.

Erm... I don't really remember. It's nearish to one of the non-default entrances in Savrenoc stronghold, I think? Maybe in the NE of the map? Been a while. And once I used it the first time, I never entered Tartarus another way, so zone scrolls always took me in through that entrance. But it's a T5 (or maybe T4; again, it has been a while) scene, so it shouldn't be too tough to look for it. I think it was a cave-ish looking entrance with some steps leading to it. Or not. Sorry I'm not much help here.

I found the death metal slimes, killed a whole bunch of them and got a few artifacts but the closest I got to a frogkin ring was a single cuttlekin ring. I think the giant shrooms are probably the best so far.

Luck of the draw, I guess. I recall sometimes not getting one for a while, then getting several in a row. Mysterious Swamp was a little out of my league at the time.

Actually, no, I think it predated mushrooms dropping them. I know the nerf came about as part of Elgarion's artifact work, which was also when they got added to mushroom loot.

You are aware they split when killed by physical damage. They don't if killed by magic.
