Seems my confusion came from believing the messages about who got what.

Character who logged in first today got the 15k login xp announcement, as of logout last night, they had had 28,107,844 adventuring and 47,649,562 crafting pool. Today, 28,122,844 and 47,664,562 crafting, so 15k gain in each pool

Character who logged in second today did not get any notification of xp gain, but as of logout last night had 2,953,868 adventuring and 5,932,321 crafting, today 2,968,868 adventuring and 5,947,321 crafting - so again, 15k gain in each
