    :eek:"The Naga Dragon Visits the Time Lord":confused:



    This is what has been keeping me busy here in Thailand recently. There are many cracks in my building as when the earthquake hit, I live on the 4th floor of an 8 story building. So, when it hit, my floor was shaking as much as 2-3 feet from side to side, the upper floors were shaking even more. But, the good news is, that The way Thailand constructs their buildings, they use far more very heavy steel supports everywhere in them. So that is the main reason that few people were injured. There were some reports of a very few deaths 1-5.
    But now there is a funny thing that happened here afterword;
    A 1500 acre lake has sprung up where there was no lake there before. This is interesting because there was an old legend that over 1000 years ago, there was a great city there, where the people had not properly kept their temple. Digs around the area confirmed that there was once a city there, yet no temple was found. So the legends goes, that when a Naga (Thai version of a dragon) that when a Naga came and saw no kept temple to remember Buddha, the Naga became angry and swallowed up the city with all it's inhabitance. A Naga is a water dragon that is mostly kind but can get nasty if it becomes upset by something. The Buddha is even recorded as speaking to some of these creatures. Anyway, I find it amazing that a water dragon could strike such a mountainous place 1000+ years ago and bring no water until 1000+ years later.

    The Naga can be seen decorating almost every temple in Thailand.
    The farmers are "very happy" for the water, yet are discussing a local temple to have some renovations made to it.
    Amazing Thailand, a great place to visit... or like me, stay and enjoy it's wonderful people from a very old culture :)
