Since there are people who love and hate Pvp . Why not split them up . I think everyone would be happier.

Just my. 2 cents maybe in the future.

Imo, as long as we have consensual pvp there is no need to.

No. Bad idea. Dont split the community if you dont have to. Only for technological reasons.

The community is already split multiple times over with Selective Multiplayer. Single Player Offline, Single player Online, etc, etc, etc.

I was arguing this last night. Right now we have 37,000 backers. On release how many will we have? 100,000 players? 1,000,000?

I think we can afford to permit people to select the exact play style they want.

For me, Full PvP server is a good ideal.

A separate server would be a waste of resources. I think allowing Selective Multiplayer to handle it would allow Portalarium to best make use of the resources they will already have.

It's very clear that they are aware they can split the player-base. Richard for one, has many times described the reasons why he does not want this to happen. Part of the game he wants to build is based upon the foundation of finding a happy medium between the two play-styles and finding a good way to have them co-exist. There are ways to have it work, and they seem to be coming up with great ideas to do that.

For example, if you have a quest (sideline mind you, not main story-line) that has you needing to get something from a PvP zone. Well you have a few options. You could try yourself to get what you need. You can Gather Friends. You can Pay someone to get the item for you that does not mind going there, or you can hire an escort to get you through. Perhaps you can even buy it off a player vendor. You can still solve the PvP-Centric quest but you did it on your terms, with whatever level of danger you felt comfortable with.

Based on the tech they have built, there is really no reason to split the player-base. You can choose to play your own style and never get involved with the other if you do not want to. The nice part is, you always have the choice - even if you don't know if you want it right now. :)

I think if this is something that folks really want, then start a new stretch goal with the devs and fund it.

I like the current model fine, but I certainly wouldn't raise a stink if supporters are there; really want this and are speaking with their wallets.

It depends upon the reason for the split. If you split the population based upon whether you prefer swords to bludgeons or Earth Magic, that would be a bad split.

Some people break out in hives at the thought of Open PvP, and by Open PvP, I mean that the entire map (except possibly inside towns) is an Open PvP area. That is quite a far cry from a gentle nudge into PvP via a quest or some other mechanism to encourage people to give it a try.

Selective Multiplayer is an existing design. A stretch goal would be inappropriate and would serve to offend the PvP community for milking them unnecessarily. I don't think Portalarium is stupid.

I'm not sure why this is in the SWAG! section. Moving to the PVP section instead.

Nothing is split. If there is no full pvp&loot, certain part of players will try and cease to play SotA after a quite bit, it's clear and simple. If you create another server for the people who like felucca ruleset, they will play. Therefore you won't be splitting anything by creating a felucca server. Instead, you will be adding more players for the game, not even mentioning that they backed the game, too, so not wasting anything.

To be honest, I myself won't be playing a "safe" SotA, no offense. I backed the game for the sake of good old UO times, a way to thank Richard Garriott for creating it.

Why go to the expense of additional server hardware when all you need to do is establish an additional Selective Multiplayer selection?

Nah bad idea. If PvP is already conseual, then those already wanting to engage will be flagged. The only real reason to have an entire world to be grieving people for your own personal gain. The current model is the best compromise currently available.

There is already Open PvP planned.

An Avatar will be able to flag himself as Open PvP and fight with any other similarly flagged Avatar any place on the map. Guards may interfere.
