Poll: Adult rated towns/basements in SotA? [UNOFFICIAL]

What do you think about adult role play options in SotA if they are contained within explicitly adult rated zones such as adult basements and/or adult player towns?

 

There are other places for that, but not in a game like SotA.

 

I can vote for neither. While I'm all for people role playing however they want, I'd rather not see development assets going into making the game more sexually explicit.
In the other thread you mentioned Second Life. Whether it's true or an undeserved reputation, Second Life has become known as THE PLACE for sexually explicit play of all sorts and enhanced sex organs as the big moneymaker for SL designers.

Do we really want SotA to gain a similar reputation?

 

Reputation is a good point if explicit screenshots make it all over the Web. On the other hand I don't think it would have to use up any developer resources. I am pretty sure that the necessary skins, animations and furniture pieces could be easily crowd sourced.

 

They tend to be more female than male and spread across all ages, including people who would probably be in the age group of your parents or grand parents. I don't think people who just want to consume pornography would log into SotA to look at crude little nude avatars doing it with each other. It would be more an option for people who enjoy social/relationship role play, of which the adult part would be, well, just one part to make it more complete.

I think that if brutal combat and cannibalism have a place in this game, then sex should have, too.

It should not be shown in an explicit way but more natural. Before the "act" starts, the screen could go black for a few seconds but I think sex should definitly be a part of the game.

 

I remember a 95 year old lady from England creating and selling nude skins in Second Life and engaging in all types of role play. And she was no exception. When I wrote "all ages" I really did mean all ages

I don't speak for anyone but myself. But I do recognize that adult themed activity is a niche in our society, not a norm. I'm not judging anyone, I'm not against adult themed activity. I'm just speaking the truth. You're asking for the equivalent of Full Loot Open PVP.

More people will leave because of that than will stay. Will you be able to support the game or possibly increase the membership of the game by adding this kind of content? Maybe. But it won't be part of the existing player base, they'll be gone. You would in effect be changing what this game is and who this game is made for.

 

Wouldn't that be a reason in favor of offering more social game play options in SotA? To attract those players who do not fall into your stereo type?

Btw, I don't think that the SotA community comes even close to your stereo type. Most people I met here are quite mature, many are far beyond that age, have families and there is quite a number of female players here. Even in general the gamer demographic has changed quite a bit. Maybe your stereo type was true in Western countries in the 1980s. It definitely does not hold true today, especially not in Asia.

 

If adult themed activities would be niche, then how comes there are still children born?

Please don't confuse realistic social role play with porn consumption.

I doubt anyone would leave because of something happening in an adult flagged player town or basement that nobody ever has to visit unless he/she explicitly wishes to do so.

 

Age has nothing to do with it. I'm plenty old and I don't want what you're selling.

I'll leave you and your legion of mature western female gamers that want sex related content to fight this battle. How could I possibly win an argument against such odds? LOLOLOLOL - seriously, if I'm just an old man that doesn't understand the marketplace and there are really tons of female gamers out there dying to have this in the game, I'll totally admit defeat.

It would be nice if the devs would quickly put an end to this debate however. Devs, please put an end to this debate.

 

Somehow I don't think Richard Garriott wants himself or his brand associated with selling virtual smut.

 

If the act is not shown in an explicit way, with the screen going black for example as I have already said, how can this attract the "pimple faced nerd gamer"?
Is this type of gamer attracted to Dragon Age for example? Is the core gamer base alienated by the option to have sex in the game? I always thought that it added to the relationship between the characters and made the world feel a but more realistic.

Having the option to have sex in the game would add to the realism of the virtual world which seems to be what the game and the community strife for.

But considering cannibalism is ok?

I'm comparing sex to things that are not socially acceptable for mass audiences. Big difference.

I have four kids that I bought accounts for. I'd like them to be able to play this game without doing gymnastics on parental controls.
