Also, to be fair, there are a lot of people who like to role-play PKers, but there are PKers who only use role-playing as a guise for just wanting to harass other players. Its really not about sex, its about giving the players a tool which they could used in a lot of really bad ways.

Honestly, I have a split mind on this. I think when TV shows put black bars on nudity its really silly, because the message of the content is much worse than the nudity itself. TV shows have a lot of bad messages about sleeping around, and then the nudity is treated as if its the problem... But, that's why I turned the topic of how representing this subject in any depth in the game would look like. If its just something shallow and about players wanting to be naughty, then you're basically turning the game into Second Life, and its not really a mature role-playing game anymore.

At any rate, it would be interesting to see whether any of these "adult" issues are introduced into the plot, or whether the topics are just avoided altogether.

I really hope the topic of sex is not ignored in the plot. RG always championed staying true to including serious moral and ethical dilemmas. There is no need for overt sexual acts, but there is a good opportunity for sexual relationships to be discussed in a way that adds to the game's Virtue concepts.

As for sex dungeons, well I'm sure people will get creative with suggestively placed cucumbers :p

I think one of the problems here is people have awfully vivid imaginations. Even some of the best selling games have fairly innocuous relationships, with consequences.

My husband & I have both played Fable 3 and to be honest, it's amusing. Besides, gypsy children are the most adorable ever.

This short scene doesn't include courting or kissing, but even the kissing scenes are funny.

I certainly don't need graphic sexual scenes or any NPC relationships in a game, nor any real life relationships (I'm happily married & satisfied, thank you), but I do think it adds a layer of realism to "living" in a game.

And Lum? Your wife is ok with developing axe murderers but not realistic content? ;) Content that actually helps round out and sell a game? But thanks for the comments anyway.

Here is just an example of how Fable 3 handles such an issue. And yes, you can get communicable diseases if you don't use a condom, and if you aren't married. If you're married, you get pregnant (sometimes).

Fable 3 is not a multiplayer game and whether or not any of this would actually help sell SotA is debatable. Lot of great games that sold very well don't have it.

When the poll asks for "adult content" it naturally goes into that direction; innocuous relationships aren't really considered adult content.

There's also been sex in Ultima games. Besides the prostitutes, there was that whole episode with Frigidazzi. And also some mushy kissing with syrupy music in Cove in U7. It is largely a discussion of what the "adult" in "adult content" means, and whether we're talking about innocuous material or graphic material. I do think to the degree that players are allowed to initiate this stuff, rather than some scripted thing, even if its not NC-17, there should be consequences where the actions merits it. And that's a matter of whether that's a priority in the game development.

Kissing is a lot less problematic, obviously.

Sex is available outside of the game, through traditional means. What I'll be looking for in game is things that I can't find in my daily routine. Things like epic quests, walking skeletons, mythical creatures, and the ability to eventually own my own castle.

Um, yes Fable 3 is a multiplayer game. My husband & I ventured in it together, and others too.

Speaking of which, I knew plenty of people who used to put whips on their beds in UO. That whole concept is distasteful to me, but it made a statement.

Ok fine then I will rephrase. It's not a game were you can have large groups of people playing together at the same time.

I have never been to Moonguard's Goldshire but this sounds like this will become like that place.

I don't like the thought SotA would become a mean splatter game or a cyber porn. Some may say that's not the intention of this or other threads, but sometimes it seems to me by reading them.
I don' believe a game has to define itself for adults about such contents either.

Knowing that my thoughts will not be taken into consideration by others, here is me merely stating them anyway. I haven't read the previous comments so sorry if this is a repost of anyone else -

    1. I was hoping to let my younger son play SotA much as I played UO when I was young. If this game contains graphic sexual experiences and earns an NC-17 rating there isn't a chance. He can always mute players who are cussing but you can't unsee graphic images such as these.

    2. Strongly sexual content ups the ratings which limits who can play (in theory, obviously not impossible to get around) That being said some of the most vile people I ever gamed with were 12-15 year olds on Call of Duty.

    3. If the experience that you pledged for was one sexual in nature and you feel wronged it might not end up in game, please show me references in the Kickstarter or anywhere else where sexual content was suggested or promised. I would rethink my pledge if that *were* one of the priorities.

Good point. It isn't just the porn aspect of it either, when people have the ability to take a fantasy too far I think it can contribute to mentally unstabling thoughts and problems. Sure, killing other people in a video game is a fantasy some people may think is going too far and acting out things you would never do in real life, but there would be a huge difference in a 'fight' that leads to someones death versus torturing another character for days and eating them. There isn't a fine line drawn on exactly where it goes too far but we have to make rational decisions and hope we are right.

A police officer was recently jailed and convicted for roleplaying cannabilism too far. The case was overturned but obviously society looked at his actions and a group of his peers felt he was no longer someone that was safe to protect the streets or be a functioning member of society. When did the line get crossed? http://www.nytimes.com/2014/07/01/n...tion-in-cannibalism-case-overturned.html?_r=0

You can do some of these things in real life, apart from maybe the walking skeletons and mythical creatures (unless they do find bigfoot). Lots of other things in the game you can find outside the game: fighting, hunting, cooking, riding horses (not in the release?), sailing, black smithing, working, social groups, and the list goes on.
