I love that you guys are working for steam to have SotA... But i wonder why go Greenlight? Cant call Valve up and get a center stage "coming soon" type of thing. SotA is differently big enough in my opinion to hit steam head on. Needing votes seems a bit, beneath us... I have been telling my friends to vote for SotA and they have said the same thing. Anyone else have a opinion or did i miss something? I haven't posted in a long time, hehe ^_^
Yeaaaa..... but thats not 100% true.... I dont see the new Assassins creed games going Greenlight, ect, ect and so forth. Im sure there are many games we could name that has never stepped foot on greenlight or ever will but will end up in the coming soon section... Maybe that only applies if your not activision, Ubisoft, and big greedy developer number 5?
The large publishers would approach Valve directly and they would have their own agreements organised. Greenlight is just a way for small-time devs to get their work in through a user-votes format. Valve can and has featured greenlit games on the main store page.
I do not know, I think that if Portalarium wanted they could approach Steam directly and get in. However they would be quickly lost among the titles from big publishers. So I think it is better for them to get in via Greenlight process and be one of the best indie games on Steam.
Indie is a very loose term these days but when you consider most MMO budgets are now in the $10-500 million range, 4 is pretty tiny.
Independence is defined by your relation to a publisher, not the fiscal support behind your product. Portalarium is publishing its own game. Therefore they are independent, whether they publish their own game with 10 million or 4 million.
Indie in today's term is not a big publisher or developer. So examples of big companies (EA, Bioware, Blizzard... etc..)
sadly 4 Millions is Indie today (compared to the 500 Millions of Destiny). Even the biggest Crowdfunder Star Citizen with 50 Millions is on the lower end of AAA moneywise. Don't ask me why, but costs for computer games exploded in the last 10 years
Captain Jack must have totally missed this, when was this announced/mailed out? Captain Jack has not seen a Dev post here on the forum either? EDIT: never mind, last mail out with the details was in Captain Jack's junk loot box, must have been all that store stuff at the end again!

Now that it is greenlit, if they give us backers Steam keys so we don't have to buy the game twice I'M GOING TO OPT TO BUY IT TWICE. I will consider it a small increase in my pledge amount. I want all my cash to go toward the game. For me personally I don't want them to not have to spend the extra money on my steam key. I hope portalarium can use that money to enhance the game. We already can download and install the game being a backer.
Animation (and graphics). If we did not have to animate characters in the CG shows/games we do here, costs would be 1/3 what they are now. It takes a team of 12 to make designs, take them through CG to final assets. It takes a team of 40+ to light and animate them. Simple economics.
