oh and it would be fun to "not" have levels on treasure chests, but have random guardians, from weak to strong, including chest mimics. For me the unexpected would be a blast.

Treasure Maps and Messages in a bottle, yes please!
(plus a decent way to store and manage them all)
I was never much of a dungeon crawler; on the contrary.
But at the moment I have 500+ Maps and SOS, still waiting to be dug up.
For me this is THE way to hunt!

    Absolutely right.

I think that treasure maps are more than a good idea - they are knocking on the door of being an essential feature.

An interesting take on treasure "maps" is what they have in ESO. Rather than being like standard maps they are sketch views of locations. You don't know where in the zone a map is showing, you just have to recognise the geographical features on the drawing as you explore.

As you can see, someone has spilt some really strong tea on that one.

Oh, man do I ever miss my UO fisherman. I certainly hope a similar T-Hunter system gets implemented. I loved fishing in my cove on Moonglow or out in my boat and scoring a high lvl map, or maybe a serp... fun times

I love the thought of having treasure maps that you discover also. and yes it could be through fishing them up.......
or perhaps you find them buried by an old abandoned shack by the bloodstains on the ground and skeleton. The man/woman had hidden it just before he was killed. So now you need to grab the map and hurry and get outta there before the murderer comes back.;)

Yes! I bet the team could improve upon and expand the possibilities for treasure maps & SOS.

Also, I'd definitely like to see player created maps (cartography skill etc) in future episodes. Of course, we'll be able to create books to the same effect, but I think the potential for geocaching in New Britannia is substantial!

Such a skill could also be used to help a character create a map within a scene, for instance a dungeon.

I played TESO for a little while and this is one of the good features of the game as it promotes exploring and really makes you have to remember where the place could be if you dont want to open, close, open, close, open, close the map ;D
But I didn't like the fact that after finding the place and clicking it, a shovel appears - in this very magical way though you do not have it in your inventory - but that's a different story ;)

If I recall correctly, you needed 3 skills to be very good at it... cartography just to read the map, mining to dig... the better you were the less "on top" of the chest you had to be to find it, lock picking to open chest without destroying items... each failure made an item disappear.

I really hope they put this into game from day one. If they haven't planned on it put someone on it right away... if you took a vote I'd bet more then half of players would say yes to having them in game.

I solo'd quite a few, died many times doing it... the boat trick helped me a few times if the chest was near the water.

I'd have so many flashbacks lol...

After completion you could also keep the map as a wall hanging saying who completed it successfully.

Treasure Hunters in UO would dig up a treasure.

Perhaps Treasure Hunters in SotA could dig up a scene. The Devs speak about having events pull you in from the overland map. What if Treasure Hunters were able to use this same mechanic to find a scene that would not normally be found using a treasure map and a skill set? When the Hunter finds the scene the entire party is drawn in.

Congratulations, you have discovered the Lost City of Gold! Cool, I like it.

We can extend this to caves, secret entrances to the underground catacombs, etc. Typically they would implement that within scenes, but putting it on the overland map gives exploration at that scale much more meaning.

I like the geocashing as well as virtue system to return the gear. You can also take it a step further and allow the player who found the treasure to either keep the gear himself or turn it into the player. This would be a karma scheme that other people were asking about.

I don't see this making it into Episode 1, but I would love to see this feature in the future.
