As a "choice" factor it's fine. As a profit system it's self cannibalistic. Unless there is the reward for being the unskill and weak to support players in that role.

If it's highly profitable to kill those players many players will kill them. No one will choose to flag as PvP. The source is killed off.

If someone chooses to flag as PvP and get's killed, that's the facts of life as PvP. But we can't have a system designed around killing those players without giving the reward for playing that roll.

The contraband mission example comes to mind. Weak and unskilled players can take the mission if they choose and get destroyed in the process. They are the target, they have a reward for success, and provide a reward for someone if they help them fail. This is a good system.

A person out learning to mine getting repeatedly killed for the ore they gather. Since gathering takes longer than one shotting the new player it's easier to go for new players. Make that starting ore worthless as a base mat. The profit would be non existent. If you want profit with this method then you would want to kill miners of higher value ore. If those players are weak and unskill, too bad, get better or unflag.

If someone is still wanting to kill those players mining the no value ore that's ok there are people willing to protect them.

The play style is still alive, if you want to kill those weak players, but it's just because you want to kill them.

    How bout this alternative,

dont flag PVP until your trained up to handle yourself!? I mean really everyone started off weak and had to build to where they are in any PVP game. Good thing about this game is we dont have to flag first off and go get ourselves killed! Instead we can train the skill needed for survival in PVP!!

If i have that option then ill take it! build myself up to be strong enough to survive, then flag PVP. I mean there are some things you need to learn before you go out into the brutal world of PVP, like #1 how to survive, what skills fit you better, whats easiest for you to work with, get some armor is a good idea, and maybe a weapon or spells you can use when you do decide to go PVP. With this game the greatest thing is you dont have to go out there until your ready for it!

Well there goes those weak and unskill players for some PK and no PK for the anti PK to hunt. And any profit tied to it.

I could be wrong, but I haven't seen anyone posting in this thread flagged as PvP except Themo, much less seen any of you in game expect Keira.

sometimes i RP, my characters hunts down whatever i deem evil etc... Pkers etc...Murderers whatever people call them, I heal people i dont even know that i see in passing or help them if they need it, i am the guy that tries to stop people from grieving others. So yes in essence it is My RP, but i also pvp for the fun of it without RP. Ive never griefed anyone except those that grief me or others, i would never attack anyone at the skills trainer or store etc.. unless my guild was at war with them. and i wouldnt do it just to irritate them, i have a conscience i guess!

I spend a lot of time not doing PvP. But, I also like to PvP because its a fun way to spend time with guildies and is a major aspect of the game. Since I started getting more active with PvP i find myself leaning a lot more about the skills, stats, spells, melee, balancing, combos, builds, healing, buffs, armour, running, orientation, regs, victory, annnnnnnnnd the death screen :p

For me PvP is always a work in progress...Someone comes up with a new tactic, then some else comes up with a way to counter, then along comes a counter-counter.... I could go on.... but I am enjoying it more and more.
