I value the "like" system as a means to express my agreement without having to post a comment of my own, a kind of +1. I also like to use it as a gesture of appreciation for a witty remark or joke. For example, the posts by Budner crack me up on a regular basis, and I enjoy them tremendously. It can also be used as a kind of welcoming gesture, for example when a new player posts for the first time in the forum.

Having said that, I pay absolutely no attention to the total number of likes that someone has. That number would only be significant if there were some kind of quality criteria for the liked posts. The vast majority of "likes" I have received were for my participation in a tug-of-war game in the Fire Lotus forum, which was completely meaningless. :)

There are two types of people I hate, those intolerant of other races, and Elves.

So to me likes are great, but they don't define me. I can only do that. I also don't worry about them to much degree. I love Time Lord and he likes everyone or at least their posts;) Do I care that he does this, well of course not. I say to myself thank you for
the likes, and I don't say how dare they like me too much. That is up to them, not something I want to control. Are we to say hey if you don't like what I said don't click like, hmmm well there could be an appreciation for my willingness to put myself out there and for
participation in general in that like, perhaps it's not that the person believed in what I said as much as that I was willing to debate the topic. Called respect. It is very multi dimensional if you think about it. lol well or that could be on me;) ***cheers***

When TimeLord first joined the forums I answered some computer questions for him. I saw he started liking all of my posts, even old ones. I thought I was special for a couple of weeks, and saw he was liking everyone's posts hehe :)

I've been gone awhile, people are passing my post count.. Used to only be like 3 people with more than me. August-Jan was crazy busy for me.

    I actually like likes.
There is simply too much content in these forums to keep up nowadays.
So going through threads where people gave you likes or qouted you makes me stay on top of some things.

I checked - took a LONG time - and Tahru is 99.6% of my likes.

I like to like people who like me. It's nice to be nice to the nice.

    -1 lol

But seriously, I don't think a dislike button would be helpful to the forum. It just lets people say "bad post" without ever giving a reason why. It doesn't help discussions move forward.
On the other hand, you don't need a reason to "like" something. The last thing we need is a flood of posts on the forum with people just saying "I agree" or "this was a good post". They are not bad posts on their own, but it can be a clutter.

So, I think the button you are looking for is the "quote" button.
